Hi there!

Has anyone stayed at either of these hotels? What did you think of them? Which one is better? The hotel that our group of 4 was looking at kinda fell through and these 2 look like good alternatives.

Thanks for any info you can give.

We stayed at the Marriott NY East Side in January '04.

They allowed us to check in around 10:30 a.m. after we got into town on a red-eye flight, which was nice.

The room wasn't that big, but it was probably comparable in size to other New York hotels in that price range. I don't recall what the bed was like, but it wasn't bad--I'd remember that. There wasn't much of a view from our room.

I remember the elevators being smallish and sometimes very slow.

But it was a few blocks from Ess A Bagel, a couple of blocks to the subway, and it was close to lots of other midtown attractions (or a short cab ride away).

We'd gladly stay there again, especially for the <$100 rate we got on Priceline.

I've stayed at the Roosevelt. It's clean and pretty spacious for NYC. Plus, right next to Grand Central Station.

The Roosevelt is a large traditional hotel in a great location. Rooms are a reasonable size - and public areas are pleasant. Some people have said they thought rooms needed to be redone. I guess it depends on what price you get and how important decor is to you - keeping in mind that these are both moderate hotels.

Both hotels are in the same price range ~$149. I am looking for either an air/hotel package unless that is to outragous..then I will go with room and air separate.

Well if you want to say in the East side, the roosvelt is not on that side.

It certainly is on the eastside. The Roosevelt has the feel of an old classic NY hotel. The Marriott as you would imagine is more modern. Finding any hotel right now for $149 is a miracle. NYC hotel prices have skyrocketed.

From a location standpoint, the Roosevelt is closer to Fifth Ave. and therefore a bit closer to walk to the theater district, Rockefeller Center... Have you read reviews on tripadvisor?

Is this for four in the room?

If it is for four in the room, double check your price because hotel rooms with two double beds are usually higher than standard hotel rooms in NYC.

Well it's officially on the east side, but it's closer to fifth avenue than it is to the East river. So I wouldn't call that "East side"

The dividing line between east and west in Manhattan is Fifth avenue. The Roosevelt is not only east of Fifth - it's also east of Madison - and clearly on the east side - unless you live in some other Manhattan than the rest of us.

The location of both are good for our group. To my knowledge, whether it be on the East side or not is not a big deal. I like the fact that both are relatively centrally located to the city and transportation.

In the post preceding yours NY I clearly stated that the hotel was officially on the east side!

Do you live in New york New York of Vegas and think you're in the Manhattan I live in?
