Roosevelt Hotel

My sister and I will be in New York for a week in November. I'll be in a meeting held at the Roosevelt Hotel. I have read good to luke warm opinions here about the Roosevelt. Is there a hotel very nearby we might stay at instead which might be bit nicer ? I'd like to be able to walk to the meeting easily. Thanks.

The Roosevelt isn;t bad - and might be your best bet if you are getting a special meeting rate. There are a lot of nicer hotels nearby - but I imagine they would be significantly more costly. What's your budget?

We we quoted $279 for a double at the Roosevelt.

Is there anything else nearby that would be better in quality and under $300 a night ? Perhaps this is a good deal ?

I agree the Roosevelt is good value and reasonably comfortable. Other hotels that would be in walking distance are the Intercontinental Barclay, the Waldorf (very mixed reviews), The Library, the Courtyard Manhattan Fifth ave. Any of the 5 or 6 hotels on 44 st b/w 5th & 6th would also be close---the Sofitel, the Algonquin, the Royalton, the Iroquois, the City Club...

Thank you for the additional suggestions.

The Library has rooms for $259-$279- is this a reputable establishment ? It appears to be within walking distance to the Roosevelt. Has anybody stayed there ?

If I have narrowed this down to the Library, Sofitel and the Roosevelt (I realize the Sofitel is more expensive), would the extra cost be justified ? This trip is a graduation present for my sister.

I have stayed at the Roosevelt with my mother a year ago-we had just stayed at the Hilton on 6th Avenue. I found it a little depressing after coming from there. At the Hilton, we had a nice high level room with a pretty city view and in a nicer area. At the Roosevelt, although the rooms were okay, it seemed abit smokey in the the hallways, the windows hadn't been cleaned, and the bathroom was quite old and needed updating. I also just didn't like the area around the Roosevelt nearly as much....I wanted to return to the Hilton!

I think the issue at the Roosevelt is the rooms can vary, some good some not. The Library is a newer hotel. Only issue there is the rooms tend to be small. Have a look at the reviews on tripadvisor. If it's not going to be a hardship for you not to be at the conference hotel, I think I might go for the Library.

Thank you for your suggestions - have decided on the Library- felt compelled to make a decision because the Sofitel was already sold out of their rooms with doubles for November. I think we will enjoy the Library.
