DC, Hotel George or Capitol Hilton?

Hi, we're stopping for one night and want to see the Spy museum (we've seen everything else), we've narrowed our choices to either the Hotel George or Capitol Hilton. I like the location of the Hilton better, but the Hotel George has 2 queens rather than 2 doubles that the Hilton has...I think the extra room is more comfortable for us and our 2 sons..Is it worth giving up extra comfort for a better location, or is the location of the Hotel George OK? The price is about the same.

We will probably go to Chinatown or Matchbox for dinner, and we like to walk, but it will be hot, a few weeks from now. Thanks.

We stayed at the Capital Hilton and had a good experience. Our room was decent, service good and we liked the location. There are several Metro stops close by which made life convenient.

I don't know anything about Hotel George but thought I'd chime in about the Capitol Hilton...

BTW, my husband who's a big kid himself liked the Spy Museum...I thought it was just ok but bet your kids would enjoy it more.

The George is hipper than the Hilton, but really you can't go wrong with either. George is closer to the things you want to do.

Not one of the 2 hotels you mentioned, but have you checked on the Monaco?

http://www.monaco-dc.com/

It's literally about a block from Spy Museum, and that area of town would be a lot of fun for a one night stay. That way, you also wouldn't have to worry about transportation from Capitol Hill or Union Station area to Chinatown.

In addition to yummy eats at Matchbox, check out the beer selection at RFD. You might also want to consider grabbing a bite to eat at Zaytinya - my fave restaurant in that neighborhood.

Have a great trip!

The Monaco was my first choice..I love Monaco's and stay in them whenever possible, problem is, they don't have rooms with 2 queens, only 1 king or 1 queen. They do have a suite though, but it's $370 a night, and they won't budge. I'm not willing to spend that much for DC on a summer Saturday...

Put me in the George camp. Location is good for your needs and the place is pretty cool.

Hilton is fine, but it's a fairly standard convention hotel.

Here's another vote for Zaytinya. We were headed there tonight, but ended up up on K Street. If you do stay at the Hilton, DC Coast is still very solid. Had a lovely meal there.

Thanks everyone, I booked the Hotel George...it looks pretty funky, I like that, plus they gave us a Kimpton loyalty rate of $125, which seems like a decent rate.

How far is the walk to the mall from there?

Hi Nina,

Back in March we stayed at the Washington Court Hotel for business. We would walk by the Hotel George on our way from Union Station. It looked cool. They also have an upscale French Restaurant. Not sure about the walk to the mall: maybe about 15-20 minutes.

Have fun!!
