Rockefeller Observation Deck
From reading discussions on this board we have decided to go up the Roc half an hour or so before it gets dark in order to see the view in daylight and also as the lights come up over the city. Very roughly what sort of time would this be this weekend? Here in England its now beginning to get dark about 4pm.. Thanks

I was surprised that it costs $18 per person to go up. I had been told that there was a cafe up there, but later told there was not. We opted to do the Empire State building, but think we would have enjoyed Top of the Rock more.

If you want to see sunset, please allow enough time to actually get to the top. You buy tickets for a preset time (i.e., we showed up at 4:00 and the next available time to go up was 4:50) so we missed sunset. Once up there, you can stay as long as you like, so leave early enough to see both daylight and nighttime views. It is great! The elevator ride is cool - you can look up and see yourself going to the top -- and it is QUICK! There is a photographer up there to take your "professional" pics if you want a pic of you and the Empire State Bldg. We splurged just for the fun of it.
