Rock of Ages - Broadway
I'm taking my 17 year old son and his friend to the US Open over Labor Day. Thought we might take in a show on Sunday afternoon. Rock of Ages looked like it might appeal to them-would appreciate your take on it if you have seen it, as well as other suggestions.

I have friends, avid theater goers, who saw it last month and enjoyed it. They were familiar with the music and the scene although I don't know if that's necessary.
They also saw and enjoyed "The Toxic Avenger", Off Broadway Best Musical, a musical spoof of the B horror movie of the same name.

They also might enjoy In the Heights.
And, since Labor Day weekend is usually very quiet, theater-wise, you can probably get discount tickets for both. Check broadwaybox.com and playbill.com. You can order tickets in advance, or to save $the $7-7.50 service charge per ticket, just take a copy of the discount offer the box office as soon as you get to the city.

Rock of Ages is 80's music so not sure if 17 yr olds would appreciate it. I've heard if you know/like the music it's enjoyable. I'd be more inclined to try "In the Heights" which includes hip hop, salsa and rap. Some of the off Broadway productions like Stomp, Blue Man Group and Fuezerbruta are also popular with teens and also on discount on the websites mentioned above.

Got discounted tickets to Rock of Ages-we all enjoyed it. Story-line was blatantly cheesy and some of the language was pretty crude, but nothing teenagers hadn't heard before and it was funny. The music was great and the boys recognized much of it. Very enjoyable.
