Cameron - fine place to stay.
The old section and new.
I'd suggest getting a room overlook Little Colorado River, which I believe is in the older section.

It has a huge tourist souvenir store - was there in May.
When buying jewelry, ask if it is authentic Navajo (large display) or Hopi Silver (small display) and who was the craftsman. If just buying gifts, then not necessary to spend the money for real products and by those made in China, Mexico, Taiwan, etc.

BUT, there is one corner of interest. That is the Navajo Rug weaving section. Hopefully, the Navajo weaver (forgot here name) is there weaving. She charges $300 per square foot for a custom weave. Superb quality.

When eating there, look up at the custom made tin ceiling. Also ask about the wooden cabinets that were once a frontier doctors pharmacy.

My earlier post on Boulder Mountain, If closed due to snow, an alternate route from the town of Boulder is Burr Road. Exceptionally scenic. In one area there is rare black petrified wood. The road is paved to Capitol Reef boundary then gravel. Always open.

When driving to Flagstaff, consider a detour to Wupatki National Monument. http://www.nps.gov/wupa/index.htm It visit old surface Indian Ruins and then loops through a volcano area. About 35 miles total.

On highway 89 to Flagstaff: look east at Mile Post 443.2 for three painted faces on three posts. The have been there for decades, always freshly painted. No known source, but worth a foto.
