Road to Hana Airport?
Hi, Thinking about doing a daytrip from Oahu to Maui in order to enjoy the Road to Hana. Which Maui airport would I fly into? Does it work to fly into Kahului? It's definitely the cheaper of the two to fly into. Thanks!
Also, is it crazy to do a day trip in there for Road to Hana. We like to be busy, but we also like to stop places along the way and hike around. Will we have time for that?

Yes. Kahului is the one for Hana. If you don't mind being exhausted at the end of the day, you can do this in one day. I'd recommend making dinner reservations at Mama's Fish House -a fabulous, though expensive dining experience, which is at the end of the road coming BACK from Hana. Be aware there is not much in Hana, it's the drive that is spectacular.

We have used Pacific Wings before and will do so again in April to fly into Hana.
If you can afford it, I'd fly into Hana. You can have a rental car waiting for you at the airport. You could then spend your time exploring destinations along the road.
There are those of us that feel that Hana is the prize and the road is merely a means to an end. That is why I like to fly over. So, when someone says that there is not much in Hana, please know that there are folks that disagree with that.

Thanks, I think we'll do it. For some reason, I couldn't find any flights to Hana via Pacific Wings, but we can get to Kahului for less than $100 on HA, so. . .I don't think we can pass it up.
Mama's Fish House looks great. We will definitely eat dinner there. Any other suggestions or places we shouldn't miss. We love hikes that are around an hour!
Thanks again!

Order the DVD with the audio tour or stop at the Shell station near the airport to buy it. It'll guide you all the way up to Hana.
The Black sand beach is a great spot for swimming and a picnic. There are waterfalls everywhere. Banana bread stops are a must. Search for Lindburgh's grave and visit the 7 Sacred Pools. If you buy Maui Revealed you can see all the places you should and probably should not visit. This is just a start. Mama's is a great idea. The Hotel Hana is always a must for us.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, unfortunately, we can't do the road to Hana; there are NO CARS available on Maui. None (and I seriously called every place, big and small). Apparently, the major car rental companies reduced their fleets and they are all sold out for the long weekend. Anyway, we're still flying in, but instead of the road to Hana, we're going to do the Summit bike tour. Their base office is in Kahului, so we're planning to just take a taxi there when we get in. The timing with our flight in should work out well (we get in at 6am) b/c the tour doesn't start until 8.
Does anyone have any suggestions for things to do around the Kahului airport? A restaurant recommendation would be great too? We will be done with the tour around 3 and our return flight isn't until 10ish.
Thanks!
