rkkwan's Yellowstone pictures

I made a quick trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone on the first weekend of October, just before Yellowstone was closed for the winter.

Here are the pictures from my trip, divided into 4 albums:

It has everything - mountains, lakes, waterfalls, canyons, bisons, elks, swans, geysers, hot springs, mud pots, and also the Old Faithful Inn where I spent a night.

Bonus: Golden Spike National Historic Site at Promontory, UT.

Loved, loved your pictures, especially of the Inn. Showed them to DH who immediately added the Inn to his Bucket List!

We stayed in the original wing also(June 07). A lot of the roads in the park had been closed the day before we got there due to snow. I hope to go back in Dec 2010. I think yellowstone would be great at anytime.

You both have some really outstanding shots! Spirobuldog, what was in that skillet?
Thanks to both of you for posting these.

To tell the truth, I was initially looking for lodging at W. Yellowstone, MT, but couldn't find any particularly good deal there. I am glad there isn't, as the stay at Old Faithful Inn is well worth it. Not just because of the travel time saved, but also the history of it. I took the free tour the next morning of the inn itself, and it was pretty good.

I had that for breakfast at Roosevelt lodge. It was called Huckleberry Sweetbread. Tasted like a coffee cake/pound cake with huckleberry sauce on it. They huckleberry everything in Teton/Yellowstone area. Huckleberry ice cream is everywhere.

Beautiful pictures, Ray. Impressed how close you came to the buffalo...or how close they came to you. We have plans to go for the first time late next summer, staying at the Old Faithful Inn while in Yellowstone. Your pictures make me that much more excited--will have to show DH. Thank you for posting!

Glad you guys like the photos. About the bisons, when I saw them the first time, the closer shots were done from within my car, windows down. I then walked out to shoot those crossing the river further away.

The second day after the snow, I saw others gathering around to shoot the bison digging for grass through the snow. It seemed pretty busy doing its own thing, so I indeed walked very close to it (closer than what the National Park Service suggested).

But I think I like this picture the most, one that I converted to black and white:

Whoa, that's intense. Now I'm cold and I was just beginning to warm after an early morning bald eagle watch. Brrrrh, Ray. It is a great shot!
