River in Reno?
I have heard that there is a River Walk in Reno and that the river runs through town. Is this true? If so, where is this River Walk area? I am not familiar with Reno but will be there in September.
Would also appreciate any suggestions as to what to see and do in Reno. Not interested in gambling. Thanks.

The river walk runs from downtown, and then through Idylwild park. Go to Virginia City one day, and be sure and go to Lake Tahoe. When are you in reno? The hot air balloon races are at the beginning of Sept, followed by the air races the next weekend. The Camel races are in Virginia City in Sept too. The Rib cookoff is in Sept too, but not sure of the dates.

The river walk is very nice. The is an amphitheater along the walk with lots of free shows. Check online for the schedule.
I'll second Virginia City as a fun day trip if you have time. There are also usually some decent shows at the casinos, even if you don't want to gamble.
If you have a car, I'd take a quick drive up to the lake or at least drive up the Mt. Rose highway and hike a bit at Tahoe Meadows.

The Rib Cookoff is always Labor Day weekend. It starts on Thursday and concludes on Labor Day. I'm starting to starve myself already. I can't eat as much as I used to...really ticks me off!!!! LOL The weather should still be warm so the River Walk should be nice. There are a lot of new shops opened in the general area. Also, a few blocks south of downtown is California Street. There a quite a few very nice, different botiques and restaurants that have opened..a fabulous shoe store. You might check it out. Slowly, the town is starting to come around. It will be a few more years yet, but a lot of good changes.
You might also consider going out to Pyramid Lake. The Truckee River..the same river that runs through downtown, ends in Pyramid Lake. It's on the indian reservation so not a lot of development but very interesting..sunsets are fabulous and wonderful rock formations. There is a very interesting visitor center and a display that gives the history of the lake and the Indians. Also a display of their crafts..the baskets are truly special. Pyramid is a desert lake so is much different than Lake Tahoe.

Never made it to the River Walk, so no feedback on that.
While in town, if you have any interest in indulging yourself with spa treatments, I recommend L'Essence - historical Victorian house that offers all kinds of services. We enjoyed facials, massages and hair services at a good price. (Facial was especially nice!)
