When you arrive at Lake Tahoe/Reno, there are flyers that say, "101 Fun Things to Do At Lake Tahoe" at Visitor Centers or Hotels. It includes a map of the lake, distances, discount coupons, and everything you need to know. I enjoy the cable car ride at Squaw Valley, and the kids enjoy swimming and ice skating on top. There are other rides overlooking Lake Tahoe - the entire area is simply beautiful and plenty to suit your personal choice of activities.

Where it says, "text search" on the top of this page, you can type in the words of these threads and find a lot of suggestions previously given.

This website has information on the Reno/Lake Tahoe area.

Some ideas of things to do:

Reno:

National Automobile Museum
Fleishmann Planetariun at the University of Nevada Reno
Virginia City
Golfing
Walk along the Truckee River Walk
Catch a show at one of the Hotel/Casinos

Lake Tahoe:

Take a cruise on the Lake (M.S. Dixie or Tahoe Queen).
Take a ride on the ski lift at Heavanly for a gret view of the Lake and Sierra Mountains (Yes the ski lift is open all year around).

I was just in Tahoe, gotta tell you that the drive around the lake is not the drive it used to be. Drove from Kingsbury grade in the South (near Zypher Cove) all the way to the west side past Homewood. Most of the drive in this direction you can not see the lake. On the East side you spend a lot of time far from the lake and on the north many large homes and condo complexes obscure the view. The traffic is bad on the weekends and all during August. Everything drops off after Labor Day Weekend. Actually Labor Day weekend can be less crowded as we have camped during that weekend at Bliss and there were hardly any other campers.

A better idea is to choose activities that are fun and enjoy the view driving to them. For sure try to visit the Thuderbird Lodge. They do tours here's a site for more info:http://www.thunderbirdlodge.org/

On the south you should see the Tallac Historic Site in the south here's a link for more info: http://www.visit-eldorado.com/tallac.html

The Erhman Mansion at Sugar Pine Point has been redone and is open again for tours. It's great, here's a link: http://cal-parks.ca.gov/pages/712/files/080703.pdf

Meeks Bay Resort has a great sandy beach. Bliss is a nice beach if you can get in. It fills very early in the morning unless you are camping there so an early entry is a must.

Cascade lake and falls a very pretty and an easy hike provides breathtaking views. Start at the trailhead at the end of the Bayview Camprground. The entrance is right across the street from Emerald Bay's Inspiration Point.

The Hyatt in Incline has a portable bar at the end of their pier. Great view of the lake from there.

Virginia City as posted before is great. A trip on the Ms Dixie is also fun for Tahoe.
During the summer they do shakespeare plays at Sand Harbor at Tahoe. I believe it is San Fran Shakespear Co.
It is a very good show...with a great setting. Seeing a play under the stars at Tahoe is beautiful!
