Lake Tahoe/first timers
Traveling to Lake tahoe in late June, two children 10,15. Enjoy outdoor activites and nightlife. Any "must do" activites appreciated. Hotel suggestions too! Thank you.

Lake Tahoe is a gorgeous outdoor area. Take a boat ride on the lake. Walk the trail near Emerald Bay down to the old mansion. Walk along the
Truckee River. I'll leave the nightlife suggestions to others.

Dear dew:
We go up each summer and stay in the Truckee area, so we have most of our fun on the North Shore. Truckee is a cute tourist town. We also have enjoyed rafting on the Truckee River, lake cruises and spending the day at Sand Harbor.
The Hyatt at Incline Village is very nice.
Have fun,

We prefer the north shore in the summer, less crowds. We stay at the Hyatt, in Incline Village, nice little area with private beach. Kids love to rent Kayaks,go boating, ride horses. We go down the Truckee River at Tahoe City on inner tubes. Hyatt has a Casino, as it is on the NV side, so there is nightlife there, plus a movie theater in the Village for kids. Fun to visit the south shore one evening.

I thought the Taylor Creek Visitor's Center next to the Tallac Historic Site was very cool. The trail there will take you to a profile chamber that's under the creek and you can see fish in their natural habitat.
Enjoy your trip!

How long are you staying? Hyatt at Incline Village is excellent, the Friday seafood buffet (DH goes for the prime rib) is amazingly bountiful, my fav is the stone crabs from Florida. Have you considered renting a condo there? You can make breakfast, pack lunches or have salad and roasted chicken bought from Raley's (sp.) I heard some deluxe condos have hot tubs on the balcony.

My parents live in Carson City which is about 20 minutes from the Lake and we have gone every summer for about 20 years. When my son was young we always went swimming at Sand Harbor. It is beautiful but the water is always really, really cold. There are places to place miniature golf. There is a paddlewheel boat the M.S.Dixie which is fun. Also, at Heavenly you can take the tram to the top of the mountain. A short excursion is to go to Virginia City which is like an old wild west town with the Bucket of Blood Saloon. They used to have a silver mine tour there also. If you have a car just driving completely around the lake (about an hour) is a nice outing. Have a great time. Even after 20 years we look forward to going every year.
