I'm planning a surprise golf mini-vacation for hubby at Half Moon Bay Ritz Carlton in June. There are a variety of rooms as well as a variety of guest cottages. Does anyone have specific comments about specific room types that they have experienced first-hand? Has anyone ever styed in the "Club Level" rooms and if so what was that like? I would also love to hear comments on their various restaurants , the spa services, the gym, and the pool area (is there one, as I didn't see one ontheir web site? I can't imagine a hotel in this caliber would not have a swimming pool and not just a lap pool for the gym). I also noticed by doing a search that there are some "Regulars" to Half Moon Bay. What is the weather like the first week in June? Same as down here in Pismo Beach~June Gloom? Just wondering if there were any sunny micro-climates around there like in Avila Beach in San Luis Obispo County. Its often sunny in Avila when the rest of the coast is socked in with fog.

The hotel is new and right on the coast.
A golf course is right next door. We had a nice room with a ocean view. Typical Ritz room, no more or less. The spa is nice but not Grand Wailea. Massages expensive at $140/50 minutes. Pool in a covered glass house. Weather likely to be foggy in June.

The Club Level offers food and drink in a private lounge, only for that floor guest. The rooms are about the same.
There is only one restaurant serving all the dining areas, sit down table dining or sofas an comfy. Personally, I love the cuisine.
Our weather, it's impossible to say. Today is extremely windy and cold, tomorrow is thought to be warm and sunny, we will know tomorrow. Dress in good layers and enjoy our changable weather what ever it may be. It is on a rugged coast cliff, not a beach and the sound of the surf is exceptional. Sunset bagpiper on weekends. The golf course surrounds the hotel. Select room with surf sounds or beautiful golf view. They are all very nice.

Now that makes sense! Again, nice pix! Which room type(s) did you stay in? My hubby will be particularly fond of that deep soaking tub (he takes a daily bath in our deep soaking tub, and he misses it when we are travelling if the hotel doesn't have one). Did you actually stay in the Club level? If so, how was the food (they said they have 5 different food presentations). Did you partake of the spa services and/or use th gym? If so, how were those services? I'll be spending a lot of time there while hubby plays golf.....

The first album is a fireplace/ocean room, as I love hearing the surf every second I can, while there. The Ritz album II is the club floor. I look forward to enjoying the club level for future visits. Nice to fetch coffee and sellect breakfast for myself, in my robe, rather than going down to eat of waiting for roomservice. Also, very pleasant for snacks and drinks through the day. Nothing fancy, but simple, pleasant fresh food.
Sorry, I have not experenced the spa or gym. I'm an outdoor hiker. Your hubby loves soaking baths, they offered a 'bath menu'my last visit. A nice lady draws the bath for you and serves chocolate, champagne, spreads rose petals, lights candles etc. to enjoy after she leaves. I had a lovely bubble bath by candlelite.
I don't know if they corrected their policy, but it was $25. a night, 'suprise' forced valet parking. You may want to ask in advance.
If you don't golf, there are some delightful galleries in town.

bodi: Thanks again for the comments. We are on the Club Level and have a mid-week spa package which includes our parking and a daily 30 minute massage for each of us. Did I understand you correctly when you said you fetched coffee in your robe (I assumed in the Club Lounge or wherever they serve breakfast)? Just wondering what the norm in dress was there. Other "Club Levels" I've experienced were at least business casual~no one in bath robes. On the other hand at Two Bunch Palms Spa in Desert Hot Springs you could wear your robe ANYWHERE, including the restaurant (or not wear anything at all in certain areas!). I had the impression that the Ritz was fairly conservative, but is it casual enough to walk out of your room in your robe? This vacation I plan on cocooning in my room and at the hotel for the most part. We do plenty of "Sight-seeing" trips throughout the year, so lately I've been trying to schedule in especially relaxing getaways where we basically do nothing but lounge around, read, work out, take walks..... Maybe we venture out a couple of times, but the focus is on NOT seeing/doing a lot! It's a time for my husband & I to get some calm rest and get away from our business and our normal everyday obligations.

Excellent! I think the private Club level will be perfect! Downstairs when you want, not have to be. Yes, I wear my robe to fetch coffee, but an appropriately modest and attractive, not 'bath robe' type. You may be right, my robes look like long dresses. I'm very old fashion.

I was going through my old threads and I thought I would do a quick follow-up to this post in case anyone was contemplating this hotel. I can't say anything much more than it was almost perfect. So much so, it seems like it was a dream. The only thing I would've liked more was warmer weather, but that's not what HMB is known for. It also would've been nice if the swimming pool was closer to the hotel~you have to walk to a separate building. We didn't bother. The grounds and room were stunning, the spa luxe, and the restaurant outstanding. Service was superior. A great surprise birthday weekend for hubby who played gold all 3 days (I stuck to Yoga, the fitness room, the spa, and walks on the bluff trail). We had a nice dinner in the cute downtown area at Pasta Moon. There is a good travel store right across the street.

bodi: Yeah, Lenny really was absolutely surprised. He loved it. So close to home, yet it felt like we were far away. He works really hard, managing and taking care of employees and clients. It was nice for him to have 3 days of totally being pampered. He had 3 days of golf, and 3 days in the spa. We only left the hotel once to have dinner and take a short walk in town. Great destination resort. He didn't have any trouble making the adjustment!
