There's not much up there. The best place to eat is at Kilauea Lodge. Yes, there is a small grocery store in the village. There are more choices in Hilo which is 30 minutes down the hill.

If you end up choosing the restaurant at Kilauea Lodge, you can make a reservation there now. I made one I may end up having to cancel for New Years' Eve. They said it will be very nice, and very busy.

I would call them general stores rather than grocery stores. They have a very limited selection. If you just need to pick up a couple of things you might find them, but otherwise don't plan on cooking many meals with what you find there.

Jaybee,

The Kailua Lodge is lovely and I would highly recommend it as "upscale" in terms of prices and food quality. If you are looking for something more casual for an evening, we loved the Thai restaurant right in town. Maria
