Restaurants in Santa Fe, New Mexico

Hi, My friends and I are going to be in Santa Fe on the 3rd week of October for 5 days. We would like some recommendations of not to miss restaurants in Santa Fe or the outskirts? What is the weather like at that time of year? Also, what places should we visit? We are all first timers to Santa Fe. Thank you.

But, just in case the search engine misses it..... the one thing you can't miss is the charred tomato salsa served by the Ore House, which overlooks the plaza.

What kinds of restaurants are you looking for?

Besides the museums, sights and attractions of Santa Fe itself, usual day trips are Taos, maybe including Taos Pueblo and the Rio Grande gorge bridge, and Bandelier, maybe including Los Alamos.

Guadalupe Cafe and El Farol are my two favorites, both in old town.

Just returned from Santa Fe this week so here goes--
Weather in mid-late October—days range from cool to warm depending on amount of sunshine and wind; nights quite cool. Snow is always a possibility at that time but not likely.

Restaurants—high end—Geronimo http://www.geronimorestaurant.com/; Santacafe http://www.santacafe.com/; The Compound http://www.compoundrestaurant.com/; Trattoria Nostrani http://www.trattorianostrani.com/; Anasazi http://www.innoftheanasazi.com/dine1.cfm (all $100 p/p up for dinner depending on wine)

moderate—Pranzo http://www.pranzosantafe.com/;
Andiamo! http://www.andiamoonline.com/; la boca http://www.santafe.com/restaurants/m...oca_menu.html;
Tulips http://www.tulips-santafe.com/

inexpensive—
Los Mayas http://www.losmayasrestaurante.com/; Maria’s New Mexican Kitchen http://www.marias-santafe.com/; Zia Diner http://www.ziadiner.com/; Tia Sophia’s no webiste but great breakfast burritos,
Joe’s Diner http://www.joesdinerandpizza.com/;
San Francisco Bar and Grill http://www.sanfranbargrill.com/

Things to do in Santa Fe—museums—O’Keeffe Museum http://www.okeeffemuseum.org/indexflash.php;
the museums on Museum Hill, Museum of Fine Arts http://www.museumofnewmexico.org/
Site Santa Fe http://www.sitesantafe.org/

Stroll Canyon Road—visit galleries, lunch at the Compound http://www.compoundrestaurant.com/ or El Farol http://www.elfarolsf.com/

Visit Nedra Matteucci’ Fenn Gallery http://www.matteucci.com/ and Gerald Peters Gallery http://www.gpgallery.com/ on Paseo de Peralta—both gorgeous buildings with lovely sculpture gardens- and you can see painting and sculpture worth as much as a home in many areas

Visit Shidoni http://www.shidoni.com/ – on Saturdays you can watch bronze pourings—also Tesuque glassworks

Buy jewelry and other crafts from the native artists under the portal of the Palace of the Governors – north side of the Plaza

Take a walking tour of Santa Fe- to learn about the many historic sites around the Plaza

Go to 10,000 Waves for a private hot tub, massage, spa treatment www.tenthousandwaves.com

Go to Bandelier http://www.nps.gov/band/;
Visit Chimayo on the high road to Taos -- Sanctuario de Chimayo a charming old church with miraculous dirt in the room off the sanctuary http://www.archdiocesesantafe.org/Ab.../Chimayo.html; have lunch at the Rancho de Chimayo restaurant http://www.ranchochimayo.com/Ranchod...restaurant.htm

Visit wineries http://www.nmwine.com/

Order a Santa Fe Visitors Guide from www.santafe.org

I'd be happy to try to answer any other questions you may have.

Great list, martym. I would add a couple to the list as well:

La Boca on Marcy St (Fabulous!!) and Bistro 315.

I'll be on the road this time tomorrow heading for Santa Fe. Yeah!!!

I would warn that I was recently very disappointed with Cowgirls. Food wasn't bad, just tasteless - even with green chile!

Just tried The Pink Adobe after their recent purchase by a big time corporation. After going there for 18 years it was hard to see any changes but I have to say the food was a notch better, service a standard higher and the decor had a much-needed freshening -- Rosalea would have approved.

Thumbs down today to Ore House. While I understand they run on "Ore House" time, it was really, really bad. Several tables, albeit grumpy high-maintenance tourists, got up and left before their drinks arrived -- of course, they were ordered about 10 minutes prior to their departure. And our waiter was one of the culprits but we just went with the flow. Similar to when you are in the islands, everything is on island time, except here it's Santa Fe time. Ten minutes is nothing, right??

Everyone here is still talking about La Boca. So check that out as well as others mentioned on the Santa Fe restaurant threads.

It's incredibly busy this weekend and I hate it. I think we'll stay in Tesuque until Sunday evening until it clears out a little. I wish all of these grumpy tourists would go away.

It is a hectic time of year and perhaps that caused the problem Sheila. Sorry that one of your favorites let you down.

Oh, no worries, Debi. We don't let that ruin our time here in Santa Fe.

Hi, DH just returned from NM 2 wks. ago. He really liked The Shed restaurant close to the Plaza. He also would recommend the historic walking tour. And, he enjoyed the Turquoise Trail, especially Madrid.-check out the Mine Shaft Tavern & Restaurant in town -very authentic old roadhouse.
