Restaurant recommendations in La Jolla
Hi, My husband and I will be in La Jolla for 4 days, and would love some good restaurant recommendations. We enjoy all types of food but would consider ourselves foodies, and dh likes a good winelist. I would also love something on the water.
Thank you!

George's at the Cove keeps being recommended around here - and for good reason.
They have three sections: The gourmet one has steep prices, but is very good. Reasonably priced food can be had at their bar or the rooftop terrace. The latter will only be open weather permitting. The winelist is very good IMO. You can check the menus and the winelist at their website:

Another very nice place offering fresh Cal Cuisine is Nine-Ten at the Grande Colonial Hotel. The quality is really good, too.
Both places are just steps from each other on Prospect St. in the center of La Jolla.

For casual breakfast, lunch or dinner, I would recommend Brockton Villa. Great french toast but even better is the view of La Jolla Cove while sitting on the outside patio. I love this place.

Another place I like for more casual meals is The Cottage. Have been for breakfast and lunch-haven't tried dinner. Very cute but not on the water.

Also check out the Marine Room. Right on the water, great food, excellent wine list and very high prices...but worth it. I'll second George's. Keep in mind that when your view is mostly or all water, when it's dark there's not much to see.

If you love sushi, Zenbu is great. As is Sushi on the Rock (that is a happening place)
For Italian, Mediteranean, Trattoria Aqua, or Piatti's, both great and not sky high in prices. Also Manhattan's (old stye Italian) in the Empress Hotel.
For Asian Fusion, Roys is awesome and a very fun place on the weekends.
Harrys Bar and American Grill is more good Italian. Also Harrys Diner on Girard for breakfast, a deli type place.
For lunch we love Whole Foods Food Counter. But go early, it is quite popular for lunch. Rubios is quite good also, for fish tacos (this is a chain).

HI--we spent a month in La Jolla in 1985 and we went to Jake's Del Mar back then, so if longevity is any consideration, that is a big point in its favor!! If I remember correctly, George's was there then too, but I may be wrong. However, we did eat at George's in 1996 and it was *very* good.

As Budman already mentioned the short drive to Del Mar, there is Sbicca, a neighbourhood restaurant feaaturing a nice and casual atmosphere with some ambitious food to match. It is located just off PCH on 15th St. opposite the L'Auberge Del Mar hotel.
