San Diego Restaurants

We will be staying in Coronado in June and I would love to hear recommendations for dinner spots in Coronado or the surrounding areas (La Jolla). Love being by the water or outdoors if possible! Thanks for your suggestions!

One other quick note, Peohe's is a popular restaurant in Cornado because of it's location on the water. The food however, has really gone downhill in recent years.

The only restaurant on my list that is actually overlooking the water is George's (but don't go late at night - or it's pitch black and you miss the view!) I've been to the other level's at George's (indoors) and I don't like them as much as the Ocean Terrace outdoors on top of the restaurant.

June can be cold, gray and gloomy so bring extra layers of clothing.

Second Tapanede - as probably our favorite place in La Jolla -and you can also get some great deals in the bar during happy hour if you prefer. http://www.tapenaderestaurant.com/

Also like the view from the deck at George's (Ocean Terrace) vis a vis in the more formal restaurant.

And at the venerable Grand Colonial Hotel - the Nine Ten is very good: http://www.nine-ten.com/home.php

There are a couple other places in La Jolla that have ocean views - such as the restaurants at the La Valencia Hotel - especially the Sky Room, and their Whaler Bar is a classic treat to behold. http://www.lavalencia.com/

But the one right one the water is the fabled Marine Room at La Jolla Shores/next to the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, a couple miles away/down from the Village. In fact - during the biggest storms - once every 10 years or so - their windows usually are blown out by waves. http://www.marineroom.com/

Haven't dined over in Coronado for a while - but Pehoe does have nice views looking back at the city - and we also enjoyed the views (dining) from what is now called the Coronado Island Mariott: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/hotel...esort-and-spa/

Also - for a funky setting/morning cup of coffee - and good sandwiches - with a great ocean view in the back - try the Living Room on Prospect in La Jolla. http://www.livingroomcafe.com/

For Lunch or casual early dinner, Point Loma Seafoods, casual fun sushi, fresh seafood cafe. They just finnished their rennovation, now have an upstairs with fabulous views of the Bay to Ocean/Point Loma and ...ta da... they now take Credit Cards!! FI there is a resident sea lion out back barking.

Fishmarket or Top of the Market, both in the same building downtown near Midway museum and walkable from Coronado - San Diego Foot ferry. Top of the MArket takes reservations: ask for BAy view for sunset.

Also San Diego Downtown across from the Airport, short taxi ride from the Coronado - San Diego foor ferry on HArbor Island is Island Prime & C Level same building same restaurant. One level is outside, my preference on teh patio with a view of San Diego BAy... amazingly do not notice the airplanes.

This thread is making me really miss SD. Been almost 2 years.

Agree with Fish Market. Also really enjoy Brigantines and Miguels Mexican.

Agree with the recommendations above - and on another thread - noted Island Prime/C level - and they not only have an incredible view of downtown SD - they also have a good cocktail hour witn great h'ors d'oeuvres from 3:30 - 5:30 M-F. http://www.cohnrestaurants.com/menu-.../island-prime/

Also like the Brigantine and Miguels but there are so many good fish and Mexican places to dine in SD - it's hard to think of them all. El Zarape http://elzarape.biz/ on Adams - north of Park is a little hole in the wall - with great fish tacos/chips, and of course, my favorite for chips and salsa - hands down - is in Old Town - or just a little away toward downtown SD - and that is El Indio: http://www.elindiocatering.com/index...tpage&Itemid=1

Sometimes I/we go by there and grab a bag of their great chips to go.

Also like Old Town Mexican Cafe http://www.oldtownmexcafe.com/ where you can watch through the front windows as the women hand make the Tortillas, and they also have good chips and salsa - but the best Mexican Food in Old Town may be at Casa Margarita's. http://www.casaguadalajara.com/

And just went by the new Pt. Loma Seafoods yesterday - and the view from the upstairs deck is great.

nanabee- You must have posted before your coffee as it hasn't been Anderson's in over 20 years! It is Villa Nueva now. But it is a great place for breakfast or lunch. I also like Miguel's and Tent City in Coronado.

It was still Anderson's Bakery up until 1992 - then I believe the new owners continued to use the same name. They may have a new name now but they are located next door to Starbucks and operate as a bakery.

I knew who she was but she was a few years older than me. I never knew she taught at a school in LJ.
