Respirator on volcano?
Someone told me that I need a face mask when touring the volcano because the smell of sulphur is unbearable. Is this true? I find it hard to believe that all the people visiting Volcanic National Park will be using a respirator or gas mask. Thanks!

I is not necessary to wear a face mask. Most of Volcano Natnl park can be seen by driving around the park and hiking a short distance to the sites. We didnt walk down to the lava flow, but no one that we had spoken with implied that you need a face mask.

People who have respiratory or cardiac difficulty may be bothered by the fumes when close to a vent. You don't have to be at all near the active lava flow for this to occur. If you are bothered, you can leave the area and move on to a site away from the fumes.
