We have had great luck using the following website.
http://www.vacationrentalsinkauai.com/
Summer in Kauai is best at the North Shore (Princeville or Hanalei). We stayed in Princeville but went all over the island - our boys just love it. Winters are more rainy on the north shore, so we stay near Lihue during the fall or winter.
But we have come to love and prefer the Big Island (23 days and counting down)!!
Have some Shave Ice (not "shaved")in Hanalei for me

I just got back from Kauai and stayed in Poipu in a lovely condo that I rented throught Parrish. here is the link
http://www.parrishkauai.com/kauai-condos/NK833.html
It was a beautiful condo and I plan to stay there every other year when we can't use our timeshare - it was the best - walked to the beach every morning. The view from the lanai is to die for -- here are some pictures from the condo we stayed in along with pictures from our trip:

We're staying at the Aston Waikiki Beach Tower in July in a two-bedroom condo. The Beach Tower is rated no.3 in popularity on tripadvisor, if you believe that stuff! The condos are across the street from the beach, just a few blocks away from The Outrigger Waikiki, which is where we stayed last year. I got a great deal on Expedia, and would suggest looking there for your dates if you're interested.

all fantastic advice...
from our experience, we have searched and searched thru rental sites and not once were we dissappointed in hawaii. From our experience, what you see in the pictures is what you get. It is a very competative market.
