Renaissance New York Time Square Hotel

We are looking to book the Renaissance in New York City for April. We can book for $l75+tax per night. Can anyone tell me if that is a good price. If not, any suggestions where to look for good prices. Thanks in advance.

I assume that is a cancellable rate? If so, definitely book it. I've seen specials there for as low as $129 or so, but they are rare and only for specific nights. Usually all their rates are well above $200. Especially if you are set on that hotel (and it is a nice one) then do it. You can continue to look for deals with them from time to time -- senior rates (?), AAA rates, etc. Some of those don't come up this early.
Others will suggest doing Priceline and taking your chances which hotel, but those are also totally non changeable and not cancellable rates.

Patrick: This is the story. I booked through travelocity about an hour ago. They told me I could cancel the day before by 4pm. I called the hotel direct to see if we could adjoing rooms. They told me I could not cancel after 24 houTravelocity told me the price included taxes. The hotel says they are not included in the price. Any advice? Thanks

If travelocity told you it includes tax, it includes tax. Just take out your confirmation sheet with the rate with you.

Taxes are high in NYC so if the $175 per night includes tax, you got a pretty good rate.

Have a drink in Foleys Fish House in the hotel. It has some of the best views of Times Square that you will find.

I've never used travelocity, but their website usually quotes rates that "include all taxes" so what their confirmation says will go. I'm not surprised that you get conflicting information from the hotel itself. What they say regarding rates, taxes, and even cancellation has nothing to do with your room booked on travelocity and I doubt that most employees there would even know how your reservation works since it wasn't booked through them.

And yes, if $175 includes taxes, that translates to somewhere around $150 without -- a very good rate.

You can call travelocity's customer service if you are uncomfortable or uncertain about any of the terms.

Let me rephrase that last post. Normally on travelocity the posted "nightly rate" will not include tax, but the "total rate" which it quotes at the end will include the tax. Maybe you saw the $175 as a nightly rate, but your total was something like $400 if for two nights?? I notice your original post did say "$175 + tax per night" which I suspect it is.

Sorry, my message was confusing. Travelocity quoted me a price of
$l75/night for a total of $700 for 4 nights. The hotel told me it was $l75+taxes. I called Travelocity customer service, and they said "taxes are included. The hotel has not notified us of a different policy". How can I prove that at the time of payment? This is the first time I have used Travelocity, so I really appreicate all your replies.

Your price includes taxes if travelocity is stating it includes taxes.

To repeat what Patrick wrote, whomever you are speaking to at the hotel probably doesn't have a clue what the hotel's contract is with travelocity.

Take a deep breath and relax. You are getting a good rate.

Are you saying you booked on the phone or on line with travelocity? And what have they sent you as a confirmation? I'm really having a little trouble now with what you're saying, because normally their price will say ___ per night, but the final price will then include the taxes. I've never seen them quote a per night rate that included the taxes, that's why the total is always more than the actual per night rate. What does the printed copy of your confirmation say for the final price? Is it really $700? In any case call travelocity and confirm and demand a written copy of your contract. They may say taxes are included, but you need a copy of something that says "total price $700. taxes are included".

I want to thank all of you for responding to my message. It took me forever to get a confirmation from Travelocity. There was nothing about including tax. After 5 calls, and 4 different answers, I was told it did not include taxes. Plus, I couldn't cancel after 24 hours. I was not comfortable with paying for 2 rooms so far ahead of time. So I cancelled. Thanks again.
