The Cleveland Clinic has a large facility in Naples. In general, medical care for the diseases of the elderly -- heart, cancer, diabetes, arthritis -- is superb in Florida because the demand is there.

"Perhaps the heat is worse for people originally form the north - all I know is my family members come back to NY or Boston from June to Sept."

I have a couple from Boston who rent my oceanfront condo for two weeks every August.

Ackislander, the Cleveland Clinic in Naples closed about 6 years! That facility was bought and now operated by HMA and called Physicians Regional Medical Center.

Oh, no! Now that I am old enough to need it, it isn't there!

Did that crazy college and town out in Corkscrew Swamp close, too?

Ackislander, we switched to Cleveland Clinic in Naples just after it opened. That place was a disaster. We'd wait hours for our appointments, billing was horrible. I once went and they said they wouldn't take care of me because I owed them money. What? It seems they had applied the payment from the only bill I had received to my newest appointment rather that the one they had billed me for! My partner was being diagnosed for Alzheimer's through there, and after numerous calls, appointments, and discussions, they didn't seem to have any record of any of the test results! We had left their care before they closed shop. Supposedly they lost "a bundle" in Naples as well they should.

Oh, you mean Ave Maria? Nope still there and still has the pharmacy that won't sell birth control pills or condoms since they are "ultra catholic". But I don't think much new is being built.

As well they should is right! It was almost impossible for them to lose money in that location and with that population, but they clearly managed to do it by not training their staff or ensuring they had systems in place. Horrible.

And how frustrating it must have been to have deal with them when you already were dealing with your partner's Alzheimer's. Not good, not fair.

Perfect spot for you on the West Coast that has everything you asked for. Great Schools, low crime, 15 minutes from the Siesta Beach, top rated beach in the US and an extremely family friendly area. Voted top 5 Master Planned communities in the US. It is called Lakewood Ranch FL. Click on the link below and take your time. Must visit.

Also Lakewood Ranch is only 15 minutes from downtown Sarasota which they call the culture coast. I live near Siesta Key and downtown Sarasota which is so unique. They call it the Culture coast. Very pretty area. The Sarasota Airport is so easy to get in and out of but if you need more choices Tampa International is only an hour North and you can fly anywhere from there.

We moved to Oviedo fl over 20 years ago. Located just outside of Orlando. We are in Seminole county, we have one of the best school systems in central FL. There is a Christain School near by (2 that I know of) St. Luke's is one of them, has a great reputation. Oviedo was voted in the Top 100 Places to live in Family Circle in 2009, 2010 and 2011. We are less than an hour from the east coast and 1 1/2 hour to the west coast. We have numerous major corporations and of course Disney. You can get a great buy on houses with all the forclosures and we have no State Tax. Property taxes are low. We have a population of over 33,500. Main campus of UCF just outside Oviedo city limits. We also have Seminole State College. Downtown Orlando is less than 30 minutes away and Disney is less than 1 hour away.
Oviedo is a great place to live and raise a family. And we have a relatively low crime rate.

The job prospect for your area of work in Florida are dismal now. The other posters are correct in that state and county offices have suffered severe budget cuts for the last several years.

As far as working in a prosecuting office, except in the larger metro area, such as Dade, Broward, Orange County etc, there is little money for support staff, such as social workers or crime victim advocates. Those are plum jobs, with pretty good benefits, and are usually given to insiders. Unless you know someone in the State Attorney's Office, forget about a job as support staff.
