I'm with Aggiemom on the weather thing.... don't let anyone try to tell you that Dallas has beautiful summers. The summers are hot, and the thunderstorms are frequent! When I lived there, I would usually go for a run at 6am in the summers if it wasn't raining. It was not at all uncommon for the temp to already be near 80 degrees at that time of the day.
And yes, Dallas will be a little greener than Phoenix, but I wouldn't exactly agree with one post that described it as a virtual topographical wonderland. You get a couple hills, some decent trees (hardly "forests") and like most other parts of the country you'll find a few good state parks within a close drive. I could name several cities that I would consider to have more abundance and variety of native trees, but I realize your question just pertains to Dallas or Phoenix.
I think that the landscape near Phoenix is much more interesting, but that is just my personal preference. And I've spent considerable time in both Dallas and Phoenix, so my opinion is based on experience.

Cargillman, we all agree that Dallas summers are hot. Most of the US is hot in the summer, and Dallas is a bit hotter than average, although less humid than average.
But... Dallas summers are cooler than Phoenix summers... much cooler. Which would you prefer... 95 degrees at 4PM (Dallas) or 110 degrees at 4PM (Phoenix)?
The question is pretty immaterial, at least in the view of the masses of Americans that are moving to both Dallas and Phoenix. California is actually losing ground... more people move out of California than to California. But for internal migration within California, people are moving away from the coast and toward the hotter central valley.
Basically, people dismiss or overlook summertime high temperatures, it's not that much of a problem... at least that's the way they behave.
