Redondo Beach...anything exciting?

I'm attending a meeting in Redondo Beach in September (for the second time). It seemed...quiet, when I last visited.

Can anyone recommend something beyond walking the piers?

You might drive down to San Pedro and take a day trip over to Catalina Island.

What kind of things do you like to do on vacation or at home and I can give you some suggestions? The near by cities of Hermosa or Manhattan might have more night life, or are you looking for shopping, where to rent a bike to ride on the bike path, walking the strand between the beach cities?

The Comedy and Magic club in Hermosa
Beach fifteen minutes north of Redondo is LA's big name comedy show. The web site has an advance schedule and sells advance tickets. Ticket prices vary with the draw of the act.

It is a pretty quiet city...but that's probably why I lived there for the past four years! I'm not sure what kinds of things you like to do but a few things to try might be:
1. getting on a deep-sea fishing trip (they're pretty inexpensive) out of the RB harbor
2. shopping in the Hollywood Riviera
3. surfing south of the jetty
4. renting a bike and riding along the strand from Redondo to El Segundo (or even up to Santa Monica)
5. if you have a car, driving south to Carson to see the LA Galaxy, Beckham's team, play (it's a bit of a drive, but much closer to RB than most other parts of LA)
6. seeing a comedy show at the Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach; Jay Leno usually performs every Sunday night (a cab there will be about $5)
7. getting a beer at Naja's on the RB pier; the bar sometimes has live music and has a large selection of draught beers; it's a hole-in-the-wall type of place but people are always friendly

Well, I guess that's more than a few...but hopefully at least one will be appealing! But do prepared...after Labor Day all the beach cities become much quieter.

Thanks for your help. I should be able to take it from there.

The Comedy Club sounds great and Naja's should hit the spot. I think I might have stopped in on my last trip.
I'm a hole-in-the-wall kind-a-guy.

I last visited Redondo in the summer of 1985. Went tuna fishing on a head boat. Remember all the lithesome girls roller skating in thong swim suits along the boardwalk. Hot bodies abounded.
