Rent a car? Take a train? Bus? What do you suggest? I am just now trying to figure out the available options. Thanks for any help.

What night of the week would you be doing this?

Apparently there is a ferry from Weehawken, NJ. This might be a good option for you since you can avoid GWB traffic both ways.

You can take Amtrak from 30th St to Penn Station, or a less expensive option is to take Septa from 30th St to Trenton and NJTransit to Penn, from there take the uptown D train from Herald Square to Yankee Stadium.

We are going Mon. June 30th. I would like to do the Yankee Clipper & probably spend most of the day in Manhattan. Would the SEPTA option be best/inexpensive way to get to Manhattan then take Amtrak back to Philly? We are really hoping not to have to rent a car.

Also, looking for those very rare Yankee Stadium tour tix for that same day. I checked the Yankees official website, eBay, Craigslist, and one other site. No luck. Anyone have any recommendations? I know, I know, they are hard to come by but sometimes things work out.

You definitely do not want to take a car to Yankee stadium. Due to the new Stadium being built several parking lots were removed and parking is both expensive and interminalbe (getting in and out) unless youknow all the back streets.

If you want to take the Yankee Clipper to and fro the game from midtown be aware that it sells out and you need advance reservations. It may already be too late.

Subway from midtown is your next best option.

Sorry - even if you can;t get tickets for the tour (which I didn;t know they did on game days) you can still see Monument Park as long as you don't have bleacher seats (they have a separate entrance). But do get there a couple of hours early -s ince it closes 45 minutes before the start of the game.

Thanks for the good info. Called about the Yankee Clipper and that is not an option. Not a big deal.

I hate to sound uneducated but I happen to live in an area of the country where we don't use public transportation. Ours does not even come out here to the suburb where I live.

Even though we have been to NYC many times somehow we have managed to avoid the subway. ?? I have used the BART in San Fran & whatever it is called in Boston and even in Europe I have done the trains & subways. That being said, will one of you be kind enough to spell out as-detailed-as-you-will a route for us to go from downtown Philly using SEPTA to Manhattan then the subway to the Bronx for a Yankees game & then back? I know I am asking a lot but I am trying to figure this out on my own. (I did manage to get myself from Rome to Venice during a train strike all by myself so I am somewhat self-sufficient. LOL)

I am hoping that there is a poster out there that would love to help out a newby like me. I'd be most appreciative. thanks.

1. NJ Transit train from Trenton to NY Penn Station. See scheudles at www.njtransit.com. You can buy round trip ticket at the Trenton station. Travel time 90min

2. Walk from Penn Station (33rd st & 7th ave) to Herald Sq. (34th st & Avenue Of The Americas)

3. Enter the subway station, buy a subway ticket (actually buy 2, 1 for each direction @ $2ea). Take B or D subway to Yankee stadium (travel time 17min)

I'm not sure why the previous poster gave you directions from Trenton instead of Philly - here's a link to the NJ Transit site, with the train schedules from Philly 30th St. to NY Penn Station. You do have to transfer in Trenton.

I'm not sure why the previous poster didn't actually give you any new info, except for the link that doesn't go actually link anywhere useful.

J62, I can't really help it if tinyurl doesn't work. Your link was to njtransit, but the information you provided in your post was not what the OP asked about.

I think tinyurl won't work on an exact search because of how that site is set up.

You can get the schedule by plugging in end points Philadelphia and New York Penn Station here:

It looks like your quickest trip would be 131 minutes leaving Philly at 7:08 am. Rush hour! That's an early start but it would give you a whole day in the city.
