Recommendation needed for Browns Canyon rafting company
We want a half day whitewater rafting trip that would be good for mom, dad, 14 year old, and 18 year old. We will be staying 2 nights in Buena Vista and there are lots of rafting companies! Can anyone recommend a company that they used and liked? Thanks!!

A few years ago we took a large family
group ranging in ages from 7-82 on this
same trip using Highside Adventures. We
all enjoyed the trip and they were very
accomodating. I would recommend them.
Their phone number is 1-800-997-3448. They have a website as well. Enjoy yourself! Wear shoes and don't wear cotton as it takes too long to dry. Paddle boats are more fun than oar boats, IMHO.

I hope this isn't too late for your trip, but we took a 1/2 day trip with American Adventure Expeditions (www.americanadventure.com) two days ago, and had a great time! This was our first rafting experience for our whole family, including 9 and 10 year old kids. The Brown's Canyon trip had just the right mix of smooth water and rapids for us newbies.
Have fun!

Thanks Annette, we're not leaving til July 25th so your info helps!! Did you do a raft that you paddled? I've been told to do a combination oar/paddle with the guide in the middle with oars and two rafters in the front paddle and two rafters in the back paddle. I'm not sure if this would be the best option with 14 & 18 year old kids?? What do you suggest?

Gladys, who told you that and why? The oar boats are more of a "tour" than a rafting trip. Unless there are some disabilities that prevents anyone in your group from paddeling I think you would have more fun on a raft where you are expected to help paddle. There are mnay different levels of trips so you can choose the degree of "white water" you are comfortable with.

Gladys -- We all paddled on our trip. There were a total of nine of us in the raft. The guide was in the back right to help steer, one child (there were three total on the raft) in the middle, and the rest of us around the edges paddling. Personally, I thought it was fun to be so involved, but I think our guide thought we were not natural paddlers! Since no one ended up in the river, I guess we were too bad in the end....
