re:driving to polynesian center
we are planning to drive from waikiki to polynesian center for the luau show. i would like to know is it difficult to drive back to waikiki during night time since the show ends around 9pm? or is it better for us to join a polynesian tour,so we don't need to worry about the driving? appreciate your suggestions!!

Hi uhoo, we drove back to Waikiki after the show, well when I say we I mean my DH did and I don't remember any problem at all. But then he always was a good driver (bombed around Milan, Rome, Naples etc and loved do so). If it was up to me to drive a rental car on an unknow road at night I would not want to do so.

uhoo, your most welcome. One more thing I thought of after I posted which might help you make a decision. I do remember I believe that the drive back was very dark. I have a bit of a problem at night when it is dark and then suddenly there are oncoming headlights. My eyes don't adjust as they should evidently. So did want to pass that thought on to you in case you have a problem also.
Enjoy Waikiki, you will have so much fun!!

I'm not sure when you are coming to our islands but just wanted to let you know that Likelike tunnel is closed at night until September. There is only one road from PCC to Kaneohe so it's hard to get lost there but with the Likelike closed, you are going to have to take either the H3 or Pali. If you're not too good with navigation, your best bet is to follow a tour bus back to Waikiki.

There's no problem driving back from Polynesian Cultural Center.
You can either: go left from PCC toward Haleiwa and follow signs to Honolulu and get on H-2 then H-1 to Honolulu and Waikiki.
or go right from PCC, follow Kamehameha Hwy (83) to Kaneohe and take Likelike Hwy (63) to Honolulu to H-1 to Waikiki.
There are not too many highways on the island so it would be difficult to miss them. Plus there will be a string of cars, most of them going back to Waikiki.
It would be OK to take a tour bus. But that would limit your options of stopping at beaches or other places on the way or going earlier or later.
