Rafting in Santa Fe/Taos area anyone?
We have a girls weekend planned for mid July and have heard there is white water rafting available on the Rio Grande. Has anyone done this and do you have a rafting company that you would recommend? Far Fung Adventures, Los Rios River Runners, Rio Grande River Tours, NM River Adventures, etc??
Thanks, Serena

We used Los Rios River Runners in July 1999. It is a day our kids won't soon forget ~ their FIRST rafting experience....
It started out bright and sunny as we rafted along on our class two trip.....when a storm came out of nowhere....we held on for dear life as we continued on......as our able bodied guide said the 'canyon walls would protect us from the lightning'...??...to which I said 'my fervent prayers were protecting us!!'.....as we then encountered what he called class 3 AND 4 rapids!!
We were soaked and scared but safe... and it turned out to be an exhilerating 'ride'!

Because this area is in the 2nd year of a drought, the rivers are much much lower than usual. We just got back from a 3 hour raft trip on the Rio Grande (Racecourse, it was called) and the rapids were very rocky and not "whitewater"... (I've been on the Deschutes in Oregon, and this really didn't compare). If the water level got much lower the outfitter (Far Flung Adventures) said they wouldn't run it. Far Flung was professional and safe and we still had a great time.. our guide was "Ben" very knowledgable and skilled.
