Quiet Condo in Maui

We are planning a trip to Maui in early October, and would like some recommendations on a condo. There are just 2 adults going, so a 1 bedroom or studio would be fine. We are picky, so here are the things that are important to us...

1. Must be quiet at night! One of us is a very light sleeper, so we're looking for a condo with respectful neighbors.
2. Don't like the big, mega resort feel. Prefer a smaller, low-rise complex.
3. Lanai close to & facing the ocean a must! Preferably right next to the ocean, with no roads or other buildings between the condo & the ocean.
4. We're going for rest & relaxation, so don't want to be in a busy, trafficky area, if possible.
5. We don't lay out on the beach, so the ocean near the condo doesn't have to be a sandy beach (can be lava rocks....we're used to the Big Island).
6. Pool not necessary (we won't use it).
7. Ideally unit would have washer/dryer & full kitchen. 1 bathroom OK.
8. Prefer not to stay in an out-dated, run-down place, if possible.

I know this list sounds crazy & we're willing to compromise on a few of them, but most important to us is the quiet, and being really close to the ocean.
Thank you so much for your recommendations!

we stayed here http://www.napili.com/. had an ocean front condo. the pool was never busy. i know you said you won't use it but just wanted to mention it because there was not loud people hanging out there. in front of there is a cove area which was awesome for sorkelling. giant turles swimming right next to you. we usually picked up groceries and cooked dinner at "home" and ate, enjoying the view from the balcony. napilli beach is within walking distance, down a trail, but we couldn't see it from the condo so didn't see crowds. there was a restaurant at napilli beach we ate at once for lunch and it was good. we discovered Onelea Beach and we were the only ones on the beach. highly recommend pacific whale foundation for any boat tours.

Budget please.

October should be pretty nice all over the island. The ocean will have started turning to be calmer south - if you want to snorkel. My husband and I are happy with close ocean *view*; quieter and less expensive than *beachfront*.

The 'ends' of Maui are generally quieter, with more low-rise, low-density condos. I'd look in Kapalua and Napili in West Maui unless you plan a lot of sightseeing across the island. Wailea and South Kihei are nice and are closer to the airport, Haleakala, Road to Hana, Iao Valley. South Maui is twenty minutes from Kahului, all on four lane highway set well above the shore.

Where have you enjoyed staying when you are on Big Island?

We stayed here twicebr />

Very quiet, has washing/drying facilities on the premises but not in the condo, at least not in the one we had. It is close to the other Napili ones suggested above. They do have ocean front accommodation. There is quite a good choice of condos on Napili beach.

Any of the condos in Maalaea would be wonderful for you. The condos are older but very well kept and beautiful ocean right there. It is perfect

Thank you all for all the great recommendations! We really appreciate it. We actually found a condo, not exactly what we were looking for, but more in our budget (sorry, I failed to mention that in my original post!), but pretty darn close. We'll be staying at the Surfside condos in S Kihei. I'll pack my "white noise" machine, just in case it isn't as quiet as we hope it will be.

ChiSue, we typically stay in Kona when we visit the Big Island. We always make sure to drive over to the Hilo side at least once or twice. It's been many years since I visited Maui, so I appreciate the info you gave in your post. Mahalo!
