Question about National City, San Diego

What is Natioal City (south of San Diego) like? I have a reservationation at the Holiday Inn but have been reading some "not too good" advice about the place. Is it seedy? Outdated? Crime-ridden? Would you stay there?
Thanks.

HI zztopz..
I would not stay there at all..
It is all what you stated and more!
There are so many great hotels in better areas..
The Holiday Inn in National City looks nice but it is not in a safe area..imo.
I am happy to help you find a place!
Let me know the dates and your budget..

Definitely not a good area to stay.

Try the hotels in Mission Valley. The ones on Hotel Circle are mostly pretty affordable.

i used to work in National City at a public elementary school. you over hear a lot from the kids about their parents and from other teachers who know the families. Just about every family had a mom or dad (or both) in prison. it is a rough, dangerous, not attractive town.

Why National City?
Do you have business in the area?

If that's the case, it will be okay.

I don't think you're in danger of getting mugged or murdered but let's face it, National City's claim to fame in San Diego is the "mile of cars". Then there's a shipyards and military bases in the area.

What type of area are you looking for? Are you just looking for an area that will be out of the way and you don't mind driving?

Thanks for the advice. I made a mistake and booked it with Hotwire before checking out the area. I'm just going to eat my losses. Not staying there, that's for sure. So now I've booked (I can cancel it!) the Homewood Suites at Liberty Station. What's your opinion on that place. Thanks to all!

Liberty Station? More expensive hookers. Actually a new development in Point Loma, A much better choise. You will get jet noise from the airport, but it is a nice area, near the bay. It's part of the old Navy Training Center which closed and was redeveloped.

Homewood Suites is brand new and close to everything..
It is under the flight path..
Downtown SD is 5 minutes away on Harbor Drive..Point Loma Seafoods is 3 minutes..
Harbor and Shelter Island are great for drinks/app's and dinner..
Go to the Brigantine in Shelter Island for the best Seafood Happy hour everyday..fish tacos are the best in town for $2
Have fun!
