Quaint Shopping in Outer Banks?
We're renting a house in Southern Shores for July 4th week and have never been down before. Wondering if there are any cute villagey towns to browse through and where (I'm thinking charming, not so touristy)?
Thanks,
Rachel

There are many shops on the 2 lane hwy in Duck, close to where you are staying. They are charming and geared to tourists, but in nice settings (wooden boardwalks running between the shops and restaurants, which are nestled in the trees on one side of the hwy, and right on the sound on other side of hwy). There is also a section of shops further up the hwy. before you get to Corolla called TimBuk2. It is in the Monterrey Shores area if you have a map of the subdivisions. That is where the Food Lion is (it is across from TimBuk2). Also touristy but can be a nice place to walk and shop and eat.

Duck has the closest shopping of the sort you are looking for- there is no shopping per se in Southern Shores area (except for a few stores right at the junction of 158 and rt 12, close to where you turn left to go to SS, but those are commercial-type stores, drug store, etc.)
