Pre-baby trip to Maui in January

My husband and I are planning to go to Hawaii as a last trip before our first child arrives in early May. Between the doctor's recommendation (go before 28 weeks) and our work schedules, it looks like we will be going in the last weekend in January.

I found a great deal on a one-bedroom condo at the new Honua Kai resort in Kaanapali through VRBO. We are interested in booking the place, but I wanted to check with some experts first.

I have been to Maui a couple of times, but never in January. I looked at a weather chart, and the temperature in Kaanapali looks good (83ish), but I'm wondering if it will be very stormy.

I know that Wailea would probably be drier, but the condo options there are not very appealing to us, and the resorts are out of our budget.

I would love your thoughts.

I've been to Maui several times in January. The weather has always been nice and warm (low 80s) with occasional light passing showers for short portions of the day. It is less humid that time of year. So I rate Jan. a wonderful time to go. Of course, any winter month in Hawaii could have an occasional unpredictable stormy few days, but it will still be warm and after the storm passes you will be in sunny paradise with rainbows galore. Also, Jan. is a great time to see whales.
Have fun.

Hawaii can have it's rainy days, but as they say, I'd rather sit in the rain in Hawaii than the snow in Pittsburg anyday!
