Portland, OR - Silver Cloud Inn - Airport

Any info on this hotel? It will be a part of a tour, so I don't have a choice. Not sure what to expect, how is the area, noise level, food around? I will not have a car.

Except for the view of the Columbia River, there's not much of interest close by, either for shopping or food. So, I hope you're not there more than a night. The area's fine; just not much happening.

It is right in a usual landing pattern for the airport, so noise may be an issue. Check tripadvisor.com for a review.

beachbum is exactly right. It would be fine if you arrived late and had an early flight, but even at that I would prefer to stay somewhere in downtown since that is still an easy trip to the airport.

Thank you, BeachBum, I will be there for nights only, the days will be either classes or field trips. I will remember to bring earplugs just in case...

MMS: I don't have a choice being there with a group, I will stay in downtown area after that.

BeachBum: I wish there were reviews, I found another Portland hotel with the same name but in a different area in TripAdvisor, and there nothing on Yahoo as well.. I guess I'll be the first one to post a report, it's nice to become a pioneer of something... anything! quot;>

Faina...yes, definitely come back another time...this area is gorgeous! What type of a tour are you doing? Classes and field trips sound like fun

MMS, I'll be there with Elderhostel, it's a "curse word" here on Fodor's

I don't know your age, if you don't mind to be a part of older group, you don't have to be 55 - just sign up an older relative, then you are qualified as a member of a "household".

I noticed one of the TripAdvisor reviewers for the city Silver Cloud also gave the airport hotel good marks.
I have stayed at the NW Silver Cloud (not the airport hotel) and really liked it. It's not on the usual Portland hotel radar but the location is terrific if you like the NW 23rd area (it's the only hotel up there) and it has a lot of nice services, like free washers and dryers for hotel guests.
I think you should be fine with this place and if you have an opportunity to stay overnight in the city itself, think about staying at the Silver Cloud.
