I drove down Sat to check out the Wildsprings
Guest Habitat outside of Pt Orford with a friend whose daughter is considering getting married there and thought I would do a little report as this is definately a place worth considering on a trip to southern Oregon.
It is set on a hillside overlooking the ocean.
There is a cluster of 5 new cabins nestled in a grove of pines. The cabins are beautifully appointed - and there are no radios, TV's or phones. From the cabins there is pathway up to the "great hall" which is a community center. There is a full kitchen there and and large community room with ocean views. Continental breakfast served here daily and also saw a sign for Tai Chi classes. There is a large attached deck overlooking the ocean. The great hall also has books, games etc. The cabins do not have kitchen facilities but you can use the kitchen in the great hall for cooking if you choose.
Down a path from the great hall is a BEAUTIFUL hot tub also with ocean views.
The grounds are beautifully landscaped in a woodsy rustic style with a variety of sculptures and art work.
There are several places on the grounds that would be great to curl up with a book and spend the day. It was a little windy when we were there and the sounds of the wind through the pines was so relaxing I could have spent the whole day there.

The owners Michelle and Dean were very gracious and informative and although I did not spend the night there, I would recommend it as place for a quiet, relaxing weekend.

And looks my friends daughter will be getting married there in Oct.

Thanks sunbum. Sounds like a great spot for a family reunion too. Was it intentional that you didn't mention that Port Orford's beachscape might be the best of the Oregon coast? Just too bad that it's so isolated. Or is it.... ;-)

Beachbum is right- the beachscape there is amazing and he should know because he is a beachbum.
We also stopped at the beach off of the beachloop in Bandon - more spectatular beach and rock formations.

Wildsprings is not really remote - its only about 1 mile off of 101- might not even be that far.
It would be great for family reunion but not if you have young children - in fact I think there might be an age restriction there- which makes it even more peaceful and restful

Sunbum--Thanks for letting us know how it is. When you mentioned it a few days ago, I liked what I saw on the website. But it is even better when we get a first hand account. I have it bookmarked, so hopefully we can make it there fairly soon!

Gee this seems like a great find. How far (miles) from Portland and by what road?

At least three hours from Portland to Port Orford. Go to maps.google.com and get directions from one town to the other.
