Road trip- wine country, Carmel/Big Sur and berkelely
Hi everyone, I'm taking a birthday road trip, my boyfriend and I live in Orange County and we're taking a road trip the first week in November, from Thursday to Monday. I want to go to Carmel/Big Sur/Monterey area, and Sonoma/Napa Valley... We also need to make a side trip to Berkeley because I want to take the Scharffenberger Chocolate Factory Tour. I've heard the Mission Ranch Inn in Carmel is wonderful and the Beltane Ranch in Glen Ellen looked great too... For wineries I'm very interested in the ones that serve champagne/sparkling wine...Gloria Ferrer, Korbel, and Domaine Chandon... Any opinions on any of this, suggestions? Any help would be appreciated!

My most favorite place to sample bubbly is Domaine Carneros. It is built like a French chateau (it's a joint venture with Tattinger) and has a fabulous view. For my taste, their sparkling wines are the best- very much in the French style. You can order a little sampler and sit on the terrance with the most unbelievable view and think that you have died and gone to heaven. I never miss the vineyard when I go to wine country. Also, not far from there is Acacia (appointments only) but a very welcoming place with excellent wines.
