Pompano Beach are for Christmas
Hello all!
I'm visiting my brother and his wife who live in Pompano Beach for Christmas this year and was hoping to plan a couple things for us to do when I'm there (Dec. 23 - 27). I know its not much time (especially with blocking out a day for Christmas, but does anyone have any suggestions for a day in Miami? or at the Everglades? All three of us are in our late 20s and are interested in seeing something new and atypical. Is there anything kind of quirky or out of the ordinary in places to eat/ activities/ bars? I don't want them to have to do things they've done a million times (ie: anything super touristy).
I appreciate your help!

Not really quirky, but a cool place to walk around - The Design District and Wynwood District in Miami.

There are great restaurants and galleries - cool, trendy, funky stuff.
Nothing else is coming to mind, I'll have to ponder for a bit.

The Las Olas area of Ft. Lauderdale is lots of fun for a day. You can get boat rides on the intercoastal from there, the area has lots of trendy boutique shopping, and very trendy restaurants as well.

You might also look into taking an Everglades swamp buggy or airboat ride (kind of touristy). There are lots of choices depending how far you want to drive. Closest is most likely at the Seminole Indian Reservation, west of Ft. Lauderdale off I75.
The Versailles is a hot spot for the Cuban community, kind of an unofficial meeting area to discuss events. It has great Cuban cuisine, and perhaps the most famous Cuban restaurant in South Florida.

I havent eaten at Versailles in years. My husband goes more frequently for business lunches. It is always tops on everyone's list for Cuban in Miami. Never been to Laffing Matterz. One other thing I do think is fun is Seminole Hard Rock.http://www.seminolehardrockhollywood.com/
There is pokers and slots, shops, restaurants ( I LOVE Tatu,) bars, clubs (even a comedy club although I have never been there either), and a Seminole Native American Village (complete with Alligator Wrestling.) Check out the website.

Just wanted to give you guys an update on my trip to Florida over the holidays. I didn't get as much free time to do some of the things I would have liked (what with family obligations and all), but i did get to to to Miami and have lunch at Versailles and I must say it was incredibly delicious!! I was a little surprised at the decor of the restaurant (basic family dining), but the food was really good and they even had a sampler platter for newbies like me! That and a mojito was a delicious lunch - and pretty inexpensive as well!
