OK - Next great "never been done before" thread -

What Is Your Favorite Power Tool You Take On Vacation? Vibrators don't count! But, blenders do! "Magic Bullet" with us next trip!

Seriously (or not) folks, thanks for the great laughs on this one!

Oh - and BTW - I've seen a few holes in the wall stuffed with TP in my work travels over the years, but never in a vacation spot. I assumed they were peep holes even though I have a reasonable knowledge of construction. But, I'm not touching anyone else's TP to yank it out and stuff my eyeball to the wall only to get a view of some totally undesirable couple (2some? 3some? xsome?) on the other side of the wall when I really only pine for a glimpse of Hyacinthe and Richard!

Oh - more mundane side. I check out the AC and the bathroom. (Never the TV - couldn't care less). Then pour a nice libation and unpack and stash the bags away to give me lots of room to spread out in. Check out the view as well. Then go for a walk.

While the peepholes are mighty interesting and give me quite a chuckle (yes I'll not be checking for them myself!) -

WHO ARE ALL YOU CRAZY PEOPLE THAT NEED TO CHECK THE TV WHILE ENJOYING THE FIRST MOMENTS OF YOUR VACATION?? (not really yelling, just a bit shocked!)

I suppose if some of you are business travelers and need a sense of normalcy - ok. But some people seem to have an ocean view, beaches, interesting cities... just beyond the TV screen and still check out the tube - egads! YUCK!

As for me, I check out the bathroom, and then I put the wine on ice, unless I traveled with a car and have my own cooler - then I start with a glass

That's why I travel with Lysol Wipes. I wipe the toilet seat and sink, door handles and bath tub. I'm a bit of a germaphobe but better safe than sorry.

Travelphile, I'm sure you didn't mean it this way, but it's funny you criticize for checking the TV, yet the first thing you do is break out the alcohol. Not sure either is the best idea...
You were probably tongue-in-cheek and I missed it.

MoB,
I'm sure the alcohol is strictly for medicinal and disinfecting purposes!

The first thing I do, well maybe the 2nd, is lick the remote control to mark my turf.
Then I throw the bedspread on the bathroom floor and do nude push ups.

Oh come on!!! Like I'm the only one here who does that!

I found this legend of symbols in one of the chain hotel booklets.

- Restaurant on premises
- Lounge on premisis
- Continental breakfast
- Outdoor pool
- Indoor pool
- Pets
- Rooms without peepholes
- Laundry facilities
- Airport shuttle

Usually after check in we return the baggage trolly to the front desk and then check the hotel out, look at the pool, see if there is a game room or business center, and maybe go get a bite to eat before bed. Usually we arrive late at night.

Also, I like to check the local tv news around 11:00. Usually to check the next day's weather report. I have found some of the news personalities that used to work in my hometown, for instance once I saw Doreen Guentzler in Washington DC. She used to work at a tv station in my hometown. She was very popular here in Ohio.

Point well taken MaureenB.

For the TVers, what I was thinking was that they have a TV at home, and now they've just arrived on vacation and instead of enjoying the sights, would check out what they could have seen at home!

As for my drinking habits - if I was in a totally new place I would drop the bags and head right out the door. But if I'm at a hotel for a wedding or something like that I'd relax a bit before meeting the group.

I try to make sure the room is truly "non smoking," drop the bags in the closet, check to see what goodies are in the minibar, and get the hell out of the hotel to experience whatever destination I've been researching for months on end.

My friends usually look for coupons off of food/drinks/entertainment.
I have gotten a little paranoid lately. I usually pull back the covers and look to make sure someone didn't have a "quicky" before we arrived. After finding some questionable..lets just say stuff in a bed one time, I ALWAYS look in the bed first. And no I'm not a super germ freak, I don't have like a magnifying glass or something down there.
After checking that I usually...jump on the bed.
