Please Help - Need Specific Restaurant Suggestion for Thanksgiving Week in New York
Hello,
I have read several past posts on this forum that have suggestions for New York restaurants on Thanksgiving...I am hoping for something more specific to our location and menu needs.
I hope someone can help me out.
I am travelling with my husband and two high school age girls for a 6 day visit to NYC. We are staying at the Affinia Dumont on E. 34th at 3rd. On Thanksgving day we will try and catch at least part of the parade and maybe the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty since nothing else is open on Thanksging day.
I'm thinking it would be easiest if we could have Thanksgiving dinner somewhere not too far from our hotel. The difficult part for us is that we have one Vegetarian daughter and the other daughter cannot eat wheat. So, for instance, Italian is sometimes tough with a wheat allergy because of pasta dishes etc. and steakhouses are hard because of the vegetarian thing. We really don't care if we have the traditional turkey dinner.
I welcome ANY ideas or advice that you can give us.
We really could use any restaurant suggestions for the whole week.
I have looked on the opentable.com site, but was hoping to have specific restaurants in mind when trying to book a reservation.
Thanks so much in advance.
Beth

You've told us what doesn't work, but not was has. All I can suggest is Candle 79 which is the nicest vegetarian rest. in the city and should also be able to deal with a wheat allergy.

Asia de Cuba in Morgans hotel is not far from your hotel and serves gluten free items.

There are lots of vegetarians in New York - I've found many places are quite happy to put together a vegetable plate or combinations of side dishes for non-meat eaters. A couple of good vegetarian places are Angelica's Kitchen and Gobo. Another good veggie/healthy place near your hotel is Josie's - 3rd Avenue and 37th St. You might also like the Indian place Vatan on 3rd and 29th St. - great fun, all you can eat and very atmospheric.
Not sure what your budget is - on the high end, I see from opentable that Brasserie Ruhlman near Rockefeller Plaza is open for Thanksgiving - a pleasant stroll up and down 5th Avenue might be good that day - or you can always hop a bus. And then there's a nice restaurant in the Park South Hotel - The Black Duck, that I see from their website is open - check it out - it's really quite nice, and reasonable, that place. I think they're serving both a special menu and regular.

Thank you for the suggestions. Candle 79 looks nice. I'm sorry, I did not mean to sound negative or difficult about what we cannot eat. We travel frequently and eat out wherever we go.
I guess I was misleading with my request.
We really don't need to eat at Vegan or Vegetarian restaurants, just somewhere that has a variety of menu items, some without meat. We can usually work around the wheat allergy as well.
Thanks again.
