Coincidentally, there was just an article in the Wall Street Journal this week by a staff writer (woman) who says she now asks for "other choices in rooms" if she doesn't get one that suits her. Not in another price category, but in the same price category she paid for, only better. She actually has had them show her three rooms or more. I could never bring myself to do that, (and my husband would disown me), but for her the room makes all the difference, and she's no longer bashful about asking. I think if I check in to the Plaza this week, and my room has some horse manure from outside, or some other such problem, I'm going to take a breath and ask to see something else. I've never done that before, but I have asked for a different table in a restaurant. I'm going to view this as the same thing, only "advanced placement"! Wish me luck!
