plays showing in Chicago

I am looking for a good play to see in the city (Chicago) sometime last week in July first week in August. 6 people in their 50's looking for some good entertainment. Will be taking the train from the North. I was looking at Late Night Catechism. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated!

Second City's Romeo and Juliet should still be playing at the Shakespeare Theatre on Navy Pier. We saw it over the weekend and it was very well done.

Check out www.metromix.com and click on Theater on the left. It lists all the plays playing now and coming up, plus reviews, times, prices, etc.

Late Nite Catechism is a good choice as it is open run and I think appeals to all ages (and religions!). It's at the Royal George Theater on Halsted. Also at the Royal George is 'I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change' which is especially funny for couples (or anyone whose ever been in a relationship)- it has 6 actors playing 60 different characters. This one has a lot of singing, however, which may not be your thing.

If you like hilarious (but often off-color) comedy, nothing beats the various shows at Second City.

Let us know what you decide. Good luck!

Check to see what is playing at the Steppanwolf Theatre. They have wonderful productions and you can often get discounted tickets at the visitor's center across from the Hancock Tower.

www.chicagoplays.com has a search feature for what's playing on specific days or weeks.

Theatre on the Lake has restagings of some of the best plays from the the last year. The tickets are only $15 and the theatre is, natch, on the lakefront at Fullerton Avenue. However, the traffic noise can be intrusive.

If you want to take your chances, you can stop by the hottix booth for day-of tickets at reduced prices.
