Planning June Utah Trip
Hi all, we are trying to put together a 1 week trip to Utah for June 2005 and see some of the natural beauty. I know we would like to see arches, Zions and Bryce. Would it be possible / enjoyable to fly into Salt Lake City and rent a car. Are there any suggestions what to see and do? Thanks all.

SLC will be about 80 miles shorter than Las Vegas if you are going to do a round trip and see Arches, Zion and Bryce. The best would be if you could fly into Grand Junction, Colordo and fly out of Las Vegas. That would save over 250 miles of driving.
You said a week. Are we talking 5 or 7 or 9 days? It makes a difference. I would not try to see all three parks unless you had at least the 9 days. A round trip from SLC to the three parks is 900 miles and approx 16 to 19 hours of total driving time. If you only have 5 days you don't want to spend the whole time driving and this area is just to scenic to drive after dark!

We would like to fly into SLC early Friday and fly home one the following Saturday. If we fly into Grand Junction and out of Vegas, what order should we see the parks? Do you think the airfare / car rental would be expensive since it will be an open jaw?

If you fly into SLC early Friday you could drive either drive the 300 miles to Zion or the 235 miles to Moab that day.
You can really do this circle in the reverse order too.
Fri. drive to Zion spend the night
Sat. tour Zion
Sun. tour Zion and drive to Bryce & spend the night.
Mon. tour Bryce
Tues. drive scenic Hwy 12 to Torrey, Utah, visit Captiol Reef and spend the night in Torrey.
Wed. drive to Moab start touring Arches
Thur. tour Arches and Canyonlands.
Fri. do one or two early hike in Arches before driving back to SLC.
I'm sure open jaw and one way vehicle rentals will be more expensive. If you flew into Grand Junction you would take I-70 and at exit 202 in Utah, take scenic Hwy 128 into Moab. (You might want to explore this drive even if you don't come this direction) Then go north on Hwy 191 to I-70 and take Hwy 24 by Hanksville, Capitol Reef and Torrey, Utah. Then south on Hwy 12 to Bryce, then Zion National Park.
