Hmmm...I'm pretty opinionated on this one. Sedona is a very romantic location and has a uniqueness factor which really sets it apart. It offers great resorts, great restaurants, decent shopping...a little bit of everything.
I found Taos boring and rather one dimensional. The scenery is, of course, beautiful, but certainly not unique in the western USA. The town offers much less, though Santa Fe is a reasonably short drive and is a nice town.
But Sedona has much more going for it than Taos.

I haven't been to Sedona but I am going next week. When we went to Santa Fe, we drove to Taos for the day. I agree that there is not much to do there. We did go to the Taos Pueblo which was interesting but the town was very small. We really did like Santa Fe though. They have alot of nice restaurants, museums and gallerys.
