So interesting (and such a relief!) that we are all so different. Being someone who enjoys spending most of my time outdoors, it seems I can almost always find something fun/amusing to do no matter where I am visiting as long as there aren't tons of people and the landscape/vegetation/wildlife is beautiful/interesting. Can't help but add my opinion.
Love:
NY's Adirondacks (live here)
NY's Finger Lakes Region (great wine)
Coast of Maine north of Portland
California's Central coast area (Capitola, Monterey, Point Lobos, Carmel Valley, Santa Cruz)
San Francisco, Berkeley, Northern Calif.
Yosemite Nat'l Park (in winter)
Death Valley (4-wheeling thru backcountry)
Glacier Nat'l Park,MT (simply gorgeous)
Grand Canyon (hard to imagine anyone not being humbled by it - gotta hike to the bottom & back up a few times)
Southern Utah & it's parks (Bryce, Zion)
Arizona (Tucson area, Mt Lemmon, Saguaro
Nat'l Park, Ajo & Organ Pipe area, Chiricauhua Park in southeastern Arizona, Sedona, Flagstaff)
Seattle (loved it in 1985)
St John, USVI (just perfect)
Never again:
Cruise to anywhere (boring & claustrophobic)
The USA is truly a spectacular & beautiful country with so much to see and do. I'll never get tired of it.

To: Curious
I grew up on the Northwest side (thats NW side of Chicago, not the burbs) when I go out with my friends we usually visit Wrigleyville or Lincoln Park. I worked for a time in downtown Chicago. I hope your message wasnt trying to point out that I havent explored Chicago, cuz I have lived here for 30 years and I have done it all or so it seems. I am moving to Florida next summer cuz I need a change of scenery and climate.

Yes, this is a fun one.
We(husband and 10 yr old daughter) JUST got back from our first visit to Las Vegas and had a really good time
but probably will never go back. It was like Disneyland and we enjoyed seeing the different theme hotels, the buffets, the fun pools and Cirque du Soleil show "O."
Now for my never go back list(actually pretty short):
Tahiti
Western part of North Carolina (we blew it on that trip and missed the Outer Banks)
Las Vegas
Florida
Would love to go back:
Fiji
Buenos Aires
Hawaii
Savannah
Ireland
Portugal
Spain
Maine
Cape Cod
Bali
Mediterranean cruise
England
New Zealand
We live in California and still think the California Coast is the most beautiful we have ever seen and San Francisco the best city!

This is a fun thread. I loved the repsonses; we are all so different! I really like most the places I've traveled to, but there are few times when I would really want to retrace my footsteps...
Places that I would love to return for an encore:
Most of Italy
southern Spain
Luxembourg
Chicago ( I had the worst travel companion & need to actually see it!)
NYC (see Chicago)
Paris
Places I saw once (or more) & that's OK with me if I don't make it back:
Quebec City
Niagara Falls
Lisbon
Islamorada
Places I would have to be offered large amounts of money to return:
Any major Texas city, especially Houston
Jamaica (scary place outside the resort)
Buffalo
Cancun & Cozumel
Berlin

Note to Ted: If one lives on the East Coast, flying 12 hours to Maui is the most overrated experience ever. Even in first class. Even in a luxury resort.
Not that it isn't a nice place, it is. But once is more than enough to endure that flight. The traffic congestion is HORRIBLE, the mosquitos will LITERALLY kill you, the beaches suck, and it is just as commercialized as any Caribbean island. Thus, the love for Aruba (commercialized but gorgeous beaches, fabulous restaurants, and a 4 hour flight), Palm Beach (gorgeous beaches, fabulous restaurants, lots to do), and Abacos (gorgeous beaches, no restaurants, no people, relaxation heaven.)
If you think Maui is the be-all-end-all, then you obviously haven't been anywhere else. And the fact that you chose to single this one comment out and need to defend one place (that I might add others have also declared within this posting as overrated), shows you need more to do.
