Old threads never die... and they never just fade away either. They just: 1) get pushed to the top by a newbie adding his/her two cents; or 2) get placed by a "ttt", "topper", or "tiptop" pisser.

To let this tired thread rest, shall we utter "Monkey-land?"

Let's try to put this MONKEY to sleep. I think we should all visit MARIAH CAREY in her PINK SWEATSUIT somewhere near JACKSON HOLE. Don't forget to take your DOG too, as well as your UNRULY CHILDREN. Plan to smuggle a GUN on the AIRPLANE or at least sit next to a SUSPICIOUS PASSENGER on your way. The TRAVEL INDUSTRY will thank you for SAVING IT'S ASS while you enjoy a 5 star vacation for the price of a KMART WORLD TOUR.

I have really enjoyed reading everyone's comments and preferences, especially the ones who discussed why they liked or disliked a particular place, which is helpful for trip planning. It is hard to believe that someone prefered Haiti and Pittsburgh to the Virgin Islands, but as they say different strokes etc. So my choices are:
Places I would love to see again and again are:
St. John's V.I.(beautiful beaches and wonderful people)
Boundry Waters, Canada & Minnesota
Coast of Maine especially Bar Harbor
San Francisco Bay area
North Carolina - Outer Banks
North Shore, Minnesota
Sedona, Az (Love those red rocks)
Northern Michigan
Northern California Coast above SF
Mt. Dora, Florida
Cape Cod
Boston (great history and city)
WDW (in a few years, I am now suffering from overexposure)

Beautiful places but I probably would not go again:
The Baths, Virgin Gorda
Port Townsend, Washington
Colonial Williamsburg (overpriced but go for the illuminations if you get a chance)
Charleston, beautiful colors
Grand Canyon (seen several times)

Places I would never want to see again (unless I had to pass thru them to get somewhere worth seeing):
Paris (I am amazed that so many people wanted to go back there, they are rude and abusive to Americans or anyone who does not speak French, also covered with trash and graffiti).
St. Thomas (Too many tacky duty free jewelry and liquor stores)
Tiajuana
Chicago (Dirty with lots of very poor people waiting on very rich people)
Las Vegas
Newport, R.I. (The type of people that made Rose want to throw herself over the railing of the Titanic)
Miami Airport (makes the Oakland bus station look good)
L.A.
Martha's Vineyard (see Newport comments plus add too many motor scooters and t-shirt shops)

Places I would hope to see before I die:
Nova Scotia
Prince Edward Island
Banff
Holland (during tulip festival)
Ireland
New Zealand
New Orleans (just once)
NYC and upstate New York
Vermont in the Fall
Germany
Swiss Alps
Tuscany

Places I do not want to see after reading everyone else's posts:
Cancun
Myrtle Beach
Dollyland
Niagra Falls (U.S. side)
Paris (I had to add that one)

Where is Abacos and Peggy's Cove???

My turn.... this is fun.

Go back to:
1. NYC
2. Chicago
3. Pacific NW - underappreciated!
4. Savannah/Charleston - so historic
5. Montana Mountains - best U.S. part of the range

Don't need to ever see again:
1. Gatlinburg
2. Florida (all of it)
3. Atlanta (zero planned growth)
4. Denver (everyone associates it with mountains... it is 2 hours away from the mountains, and the city itself is unimpressive)

Agree with many of the postings - but can only assume that people who said wouldn't return to Grand Canyon didn't take the trouble to get away from the crowds/shops/cars etc at the rim. Take the trouble to make a short hike into the canyon (taking good note of the safety advice) or better still invest in the mule trip or a whitewater ride to Phantom Ranch. You should never tire of this place.

So, nice but not twice:
Vegas
Anything with a man dressed as mouse
Paris (OK I'm biased because I'm English)

Once is never enough:
Yellowstone
Tetons
Yosemite
Grand Canyon
Zion
Bryce (for all of these, get your hiking boots on, within half a mile you'll feel like you've got the place to yourself)
San Francisco
North coast of California
Mesa Verde
Silverton, Colorado (after 4.00 pm when the tourists all leave on the train back to Durango)
