I'd love to get some reviews/opinions on the following: The Atlantic,The Bentley, The Capri, The Village Latch or the Southampton Inn. We are used to staying at 4 and 5 star places, seems these are not, but are they ok?

The first 3 are part of a chain I think. They're motels that have been redone within the last few years. I'll have to doublecheck on locations.

The Village Latch, while in a great location and a beautiful looking house/inn on the outside is supposedly just awful inside. Read these reviews & avoid at all cost

The Southampton Inn is a largish motel lacking any charm. It does have a pool & is in town so you can walk to shops & restaurants & the movie theater, but it's not where I'd choose to stay.

IMO, either stay in a charming place that's good (I think the Inn on Pine is good. The Mainstay Inn gets good reviews here)

The Bentley might not be too bad. Be aware that the one review of it here on rants & raves is for the Bentley in NYC, not this motel. The Atlantic & the Capri are both on the main road in not very scenic spots and I think they both have a club scene at night that could be noisy. Bottom line, I'm not thrilled with any of these choices. Are these the only places available?

There really aren't any 4-5 star places to stay in the Hamptons. You have listed places to stay in Southampton-do you need to stay in Southampton? If you are looking for the beach and the Hamptons "scene" I would suggest staying further east in East Hampton or Amagansett. Again, you will be staying in Inns (the J. Harper Poor Cottage is amazing in East Hampton. The Maidstone Arms is nice also) or beach motels (the Ocean Dunes in Amagansett is my favorite), none of which are 5 star fancy. The only real resort I can think of is Gurney's Inn and Spa in Montauk. It is not deluxe (but the prices are) but what a location!

Have you checked the Butlers Manor? Had not heard of it before this morning but it sounds great here

I agree with mariasch that further east in East Hampton & Amagansett there are more choices & the first 2 she mentions are the same as my original suggestions on your other thread. I assume they're full.

I can only comment on the Southampton Inn. Stayed for a wedding in 1996, after Labor day so it wasn't even "in season". Ridiculous prices even with the special wedding rate for what was basically a Red Roof Inn or Super 8 type of facility (and not one of their newer ones either). Yes, we were within walking distance of all of downtown Southampton, so you are paying for location and really nothing else.

Thank you all for your posts. The ones I listed happen to have some availability. I've tried many of the ones listed by the posters and they were booked. I love East Hampton and have stayed there often, but at a friend's house when I was with her, so I am not that familiar with the inns/hotels. You are right, they are all charging st. regis prices for 3 star properties!

I have read some of the reviews on this site and notice that several people recommended the Southampton Inn, and also noted that it underwent a major renovation perhaps about 2 years ago.

Law of supply and demand on the prices (not to mention pure unadulterated greed). I think the Southampton Inn would be "fine." I agree it's probably better than what droolpatrol experienced in '96. But I wanted you to understand that despite the name, it's a motel type of building but in town off Hill St. right near the movie theater. There's a very good restaurant in the complex called Plaza Cafe.

Since it sounds like you'd prefer Southampton to East Hampton, the Southampton Inn allows you to walk around town. The Bentley is a bit further out of town but has views of the water according to the Fodors write up and the rooms sound large with kitchenettes on their website.

hi mclaurie- it isn't that I prefer south to east, it's that more places in south have availability. I would love to stay in east. I did try the Dunes and they have a 4 night minimum and we can only stay 3 nights. maybe as the time gets closer, they will decrease the minimum.

In East Hampton, I have stayed at the Mill House Inn - http://www.millhouseinn.com/index.htm and The 1770 House - http://www.1770house.com/ and I have liked both of them. I understand the 1770 House has renovated since I was last there. Looking forward to seeing the renovations when we stay there next month. The 1770 House also has a fantastic restaurant. See if either of these have availability. Both are within walking distance of town - but The 1770 House is a little bit further.
