Place to stay in Carmel area

My husband and I are planning a two night escape after a family wedding in San Simeon. Where (specific hotels, B&Bs or inns, please) in the Carmel area do you recommend staying? We will only have one car (and my husband may head up to Pebble for golf one day) so it would be best to be within walking distance of shops/restaurants. Thanks.

We stayed in one of the cottages at the Normandy Inn and really enjoyed it. You can easily walk to the beach and it is right at the beginning of the shopping area. Also, very close to one of the entrances to the 17 mile (Pebble Beach) drive without having to go back to the highway (miss alot of the traffic).

Vagabonds House is a charming old "Classic Carmel" B&B inn in a quiet spot with parking and cottage-style rooms arranged around a pretty courtyard. For many years rated one of the top B&Bs. Only a block away from the galleries, shops, restaurant scene. Read reviews here and I've posted a review (with photos) on tripadvisor.com. Website is www.vagabondshouseinn.com

We loved the Best Western Bay View Inn ... For the money, it was terrific!
