Early May we'll be flying into Atlanta to attend a gradution in Auburn, AL. We'll have most of the day Saturday and Sunday to spend around Pine Mt. Plan to spend Saturday at Callaway Gardens and wonder about hiking at FDR State Park early on Sunday.

Has anyone hiked at FDR? Are the trails anything special, or just a nice walk in the woods. There's nothing wrong with the latter when I'm home or have lots of time, but with limited time like to make the best use of it.

Perhaps someone has other suggestions for between Atlanta and Auburn. Will have two full days in Auburn before the evening graduation.

You should go to Stone Mountain (in stone mountain, ga). IT's the largest piece of exposed granite in the world (as big as a mountain). You can hike up it or take a tramlike thing. It's awesome. It also has a film history of the carving on the side. I'm not sure, but they used to do a laser show on the side every night.

Personally, I thought Stone Mountain was a gigantic tourist trap. Can't give you much in the way of suggestions except sites in downtown Atlanta and maybe a Braves game but I hope you will post a report when you return from Callaway Gardens. I've considered stopping many times on the drive from Ohio to Florida but have never been sure if it would be worth going out of our way to see it.

I have been to FDR's Little White House in Warm Springs near Callaway Gardens and it was quite interesting. I didn't know that there were hiking trails there, but I think it is worth the trip there while you are at Callaway.

There are a few trails in the area. The Pine Mtn trail can be a loop from a small parking/picnic area off the highway south of the Little White House. It is a pleasant walk in the woods, but I can't say it's really special.

The Little White House and museum don't take alot of time, but most people find them interesting.

There are a few antique shops in Warm Springs.

I'm not sure what there is to see in Columbus, Georgia these days.
