Pikes Peak and Colorado Springs visit

My wife and I are planning a trip to Denver, RMNP and Colorado Springs. Would like to go to Pikes Peak but don't want to drive up the full climb of 16 miles- (I understand the last three miles are not open to private cars now because of construction activity). . I have three questions:1) Is the" park and I ride" station at 7 miles up the road open until first week of September? 2) How hard is the drive up to 7 miles? 3) If we choose not to drive, is there a bus service from town that will take us to the peak and bring us back? Thank you for any information you can provide.

At moment it is very confusing. The railroad closed, the town has panic for fear of business lost and increase traffic congestion. Their is a scramble to find an alternative solution for traffic. It is basically day to day. I would check a few days before at the local tourist info site.
