Phoenix to Albuquerque via Santa FE & Bosque Del Apache Itineray March 2010
I will be participating in a photoworkshop in Santa Fe March 7th to 10th.
My husband and I are trying to plan an itinerary that would begin with an evening arrival in Phoenix on March 4th and diriving to Sedona the first night.
Two nights in Sedona then drive to Santa Fe on Sat March 6.
?? stop in Flagstaff on the way??
The workshop is MArch 7th to 10th, 2010
Maybe leave Santa Fe on the 12th and head south to Bosque del Apache and WHite Sands National Monument.
Then fly out of Albuquerque on Sunday March 14th.
I have no idea what to expect in terms of the weather.
Also, what towns should we stay in between Santa Fe and Albuquerque???

There are no towns between Santa Fe and Albuquerque to stay in, they are only about 60 miles apart, a 1 hour drive.
March is still winter here, the days should be clear and sunny which will make it feel warmer. The nights will be cold. There could still be snow, though most of the time it melts pretty fast [non-mountain areas anyway].

Ditto Deb for the weather. I've gone without coats to coats during the day -- it all depends on the sunshine.
And, no need to stay somewhere between Santa Fe & Albuquerque. But, if you wish, you can take the Turquoise Trail for a slow drive to ABQ through quaint towns or hit I-25 for a quick 1-hour drive to the airport.
Just wondering, are you attending Santa Fe Workshops?

2 nights in Sedona is great! You'll need time to take in all the beautiful scenery. As for Flagstaff just drive on through. It's still a little over 6 hour drive to Santa Fe. Yes there are towns & places to stay between Santa Fe & ABQ! (I live in one of them!) The Hyatt Regency Tamaya on the Rio Grande is my favorite hotel here. It's 10 mi north of ABQ and 32 mi south of Santa Fe. You have to drive right on by here on your way back from Santa Fe. Might as well turn off in Bernalillo and check out the beautiful grounds of the Hyatt. It's a beautiful base to explore the surrounding areas. As for weather, my son had an outdoor wedding in March 07 at the Hyatt. Snowed lightly at the rehearsal, and sunny breezy wedding day. You never know around here in March! Bring warm stuff just in case!

If you haven't been up to Grand Canyon, on your way to Santa Fe, take a day or two and visit it after you leave Sedona. There are other nice National Parks/Monuments just minutes off i 40 between Flagstaff and ABQ, like Walnut Canyon, Painted Desert/Petrified Forest, El Morro/Inscription Rock, as well as Native American sites like Accoma Pueblo. These would make interesting places to visit if you want to hike, do the historic thing, etc. and add a day or two to your trip. On the way down to White Sands, you also could visit Salinas Pueblo.
Enjoy your trip.
Enjoy your trip.

Lisa,
I did not mean to imply that there were no towns to stay in between ABQ and SF - I simply meant that it really wasn't necessary since they are so close. I think the original poster might have thought that there was a much greater distance between the 2 cities.
[I know that Bernalillo exists, as we are building a house there as I type! ]
Tamaya is beautiful and a nice place to stay and you could even see both cities using it as a base. Just trying to clarify for the posters' benefit [who appears to not have checked back here for replies].
