Phoenix Hotel (august 2003)

Hello,

after a 2 days on the road to GC and MV, my hb, my dad and I will rest in PHX for 2 nights (maybe three).

here are the hotel I am thinking about:

Marriott Camelback
JW Marriott
Sunburst
The buttes
Point hilton sqaw peak

My first choice would be camelback inn. Is there bathrobes in the room ?

I want to choose a hotel where we can rest, play some round of golf, swim and eat well if we don't feel like driving.

your advices and experiences are very welcome.

If you are willing to spend the $$$, the new JW Marriott Desert Resort is superb. Food is great, service outstanding, golf courses beautiful, nice spa, and innovative food (order the chocolate dessert at Roy's). They have gorgeous pools, including a lazy river. If you get tired of the resort, there is a shopping/dining mall across the street. I stayed here for four nights in May, and can't say enough good things about this place.

I agree.I was disappointed that the golf at Camelback Inn is NOT the course right behind the resort...its 15 minutes ride away, even though they will shuttle you over there. And the course is great, but its not right out the back door.

hum, this can be a bit annoying.
Do they rent material? and is it possible to golf if you are a beginner?

Moondoggie:
I can use marriott rewards for 2 nights at the JW Marriott Desert Resort, but the camelback inn as a promo rate for $99 a night (which look like a very good deal)
Lazy rivers sounds very tempting...

The Sunburst, Buttes, and Point Hilton are not any where as nice as your first two choices, but they are good for their price. The Buttes and Point Hilton are not in the most convenient locations (the Sunburst is close to downtown Scottsdale).

Another one you might want to consider is the Millenium in Scottsdale. Look up Millenium hotels on a search engine to get to their international web site. They have been advertising (in the local paper) $100/night rooms with a certificate for $100 for dinner. Basically $0 cost. It's a very nice hotel with a good location, and close to several golf courses. They are on one of the few lakes (man-made) in the area and rent out water stuff. You might have to call them directly and mention the ad in the Arizona Republic.

Here is the website for Camelback Inn.I found the hotel itself relaxing. It was built around the original Mariott Hotel back in the DarkAges.LOL!! The pool areas are great and the cheeseburgers and onion rings are to die for. There is a good steak house there too.

The Scottsdale Princess has a beautiful golf course. I believe they play the Phoenix Open from that course. Also a great pool.

Moondoggie... Can you share a little more about the JW Marriott? And what is in the shopping mall and what you would recommend at the shopping mall across the street?

I am spending 9 days in Sept. mostly inside at a medical conference so what free time I have I'd like to take advantage of. Also any side trips you'd recommend? I won't have a car so would have to join a tour I guess...do you remember any sort of shuttle service or trolley info?
Txs much..I get stir crazy after being inside all day listening to lectures...
