Philadelphia train & hotel help needed

It looks like I will be arriving at Philadelphia airport around midnight, and plan to take a cab into center city at that hour. I would like to stay at a hotel near the train station where I would catch a train to Doylestown the next morning. Q: which station will I be catching that train from? And any recommendations for hotels in that area?

If you are arriving at midnight, I'd just stay at the airport and take the train in the morning, skipping the cab ride. If the airport has a shuttle, you could either take it back to the airport (easy to catch the train there) or to Eastwick station. Then you can connect from the airport train R1 to the R5 to Doylestown in center city, probably at Market East station. Go to Septa.org and check the schedules. Not ever R5 goes all the way to Doylestown - every other one stop at Lansdale. Also, they were doing track construction on the R5 a few months ago. Check the construction advisories on Septa.org .

You can try Priceline.com to bid for an airport hotel if you care about budget at all. I did this last spring and got the Residence Inn for like $57 I think and took the train next morning to Doylestown FYI.

Well, that's a thought, spending the night near the airport. I'm kind've looking forward to strolling around center city a bit in the morning before heading north, but we'll see. Is it the 30th Street Station I'll be taking the train to Doylestown from?

I used to know all this stuff when I lived there 20 years ago, but it seems that was a lifetime ago...

The Septa trains all connect at three different stations: 30th Street, Suburban Station, and Market East. You can get on the R5 Doylestown at any of them. The convention center is near both Market East and Suburban - I know you can find a number of hotels nearby. In fact, if you look for hotels that aren't too far from Market Street you'll know you aren't far from the train stations.

If you get a chance while in Doylestown, visit Fonthill and the Mercer tile works.

Actually, I'll be visiting family not far from Doylestown. No sight-seeing this trip ...
