On holiday from England in the autumn looking to stay on the west coast of Florida. Looking for a good beach, sightseeing but not too commercial. Any ideas of the perfect place?
Sanibel Island would be ideal. There is absolutely no commercialism allowed. That means no billboards, stop lights, gawdy strip malls, etc. There is enough to do in the general area for sightseeing. It is very beautiful there.
Don't get too worried, there is some "commercialism" on Sanibel: good restaurants, shops, boutiques, beach concessions and so on. It's not completely sanitized (although there are none of those nasty commercial stop lights!).
sanibel is nice. Marco island is probably nicer both are worth going to. also think about sarasota (siesta key or longboat key)--awesome beaches and much closer to orlando and tampa for day trips if you want to.
Sanibel !!!!! It's a wonderful place. Serene, low-key and relaxing. Sun, surf, shells and lots of birds and dolphins. Also good sightseeing sidetrips. Welcome and enjoy !
Naples is a another great place to stay. They have very nice beaches, restaurants and shopping. It's located between Sanibel Island and Marco Islando. We usally make Naples our base and spend time onboth Marco Island and Sanibel Island.
